I'm thinking about taking the popcorn looking stuff of the bottom of my car. It's mostly soaked in tranny fluid from a previous leak and comes off easily. Is it just there for sound deadening and to protect the bottom from getting rock chips in it?

I used one of those hand held torches used for plumbing, and a 1 inch steel scraper. Just pass the torch over a small area (say 6"x6") for a few seconds, then use the scraper. Comes off like butter. I had the 67 gutted, and there'sa ton of it inside and out. The wheel well cleaned up REAL good (bare steel). THere may be a slight "film" left over. I didn't mess with it, as I'm media blasting the whole deal on a rotisserie. Let me know how it worked for you.

I used this method to remove mine.

http://www.svend.net/mustang/ww73/ww73.html

I am now getting ready to apply some 3M Body Shutz in the rear wheeel wells to replace the original stuff I removed.

66Hertz: Why are you applying 3M Body Shutz to the wheel wells? What are you hoping to accomplish by doing this?

66hertz, I would like to know where I can get that too. Also, I feel your pain on the tar paper stuck to hardwood floors. Had that crap in the kitchen of the first house I bought in Norfolk, Va. What a mess. I was never so happy to finish a flooring job in my life...

Guys you can order the Peel Away 7 directly from Dumond Chemical: http://www.dumondchemicals.com/

Someone says that you can also purchase it at local paint stores.

I just posted a recap of a recent project with Peel Away 7 and Por15.

Chip resistance, paint would cover the area and look OK, but the rubbery surface of the shutz will not chip. I am planning on having my car for a long, long time. I want to prevent rust an corrosion from being able to get started.

Home Depot, took only a few hours to remove the undercoating and it took it all off. I had a large drip pan under each wheel well as I removed the Peel away, there was no mess and the paint on my garage floor was not disturbed.

I don't follow the Home Depot comment?!? How does the 3M Body Shutz look after it's been applied? Can it only be applied with a spray gun?

Someone else asked where to get it.

I never tried to apply it with a brush, I guess you could.

When it is sprayed, the surface tends to be rather smooth, not at all like the cratered look that one gets from the spray bomb undercoating.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I might consider it after using the Peel Away 7 and applying the POR15 to my wheel wells.

I hope to tackle that project next weekend. I need a break from the trunk project--sore joints and all.
