Ok, so everything was running nice, then a couple of days ago on my way home my transmission started to slip. It would slip when i started from a stop light and my rpm would go high without going anywhere, so when i got home i checked the fluid and there was slim to none in it so i filled it, that helped a little but still slipping. I took it for a drive again, and it worked fine about 80% of the time only slipping occasionally and erratically. I am assuming this means my trans. is gone or soon to be gone. Took it to a guy and said around 1300-1500 to fix does this sound right? Anyone have any ideas on how i could get one for cheaper, possibly rebuilt. Any help would be great.

1996 GT automatic conv.

Doesnt sound bad and sounds maybe on the cheap side for a auto. I had one 3650 rebuilt for 1100 when I had the GT and the one in the mach was going to cost 1300-1400 to rebuild.

As far as getting a new / rebuilt one talk to a couple shops and see what they can get you. In my case 1400 was nearly enough to buy a new t56 so thats what I did.

Driving around with low fluid can damage the trans. Flush the fluid and refill it asap you may be ok... How long was it slipping?

BTW with auto trans ALWAYS try that which is easiest and cheapest first. Do a full fluid flush. That means draining the trans and the TC. Take it to a shop for this and expect to pay at least $80 for it.

I think the odds are good that a simple trans fluid flush will fix it.
