I'm looking into getting an electric fan, and running it with a DCC (http://www.dccontrol.com/index.htm). I know the better (and cheaper) route is to pick up a Taurus 3.8L fan or a Mark VIII fan. I would much rather do this than spend $200 on a Flex-a-lite.

So which is a better fan to go with? If I go with a Taurus fan, can it be from any taurus with a 3.8L? Or is it just from specific years? I found this taurus fan on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33710&item=7966363316&rd=1 Would this be a good fan to run with a DCC? The price is right at $39.99.

Then, I found this Mark VIII fan: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...ry=33600&item=7966316115&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
That one looks good too, but why is the bid at $70 already? Is it a better fan than the taurus fan?

My other question is, what's with all the different sizes? The taurus 3.8L fan is 20x10x5, the Mark VIII fan is 23 x 18 3/4 x 6, while the Flex-a-lite fan from summit is only 15" in diameter. The bigger the fan, the better it works or what?

Sorry if this is a stupid thread, but I am really confused about the whole fan issue, and I just want to pick up a cheap fan that will work well with the DCC, and maybe help me free up a few HP. Can any of you guys point me in the right direction?

BTW, I was going to refer back to all the previous electric fan threads that I have read, but those didn't seem to make it through the STANGNET SERVER CRASH OF 2005.

You might want to look at the Ramcharger dual fan too. It's ~$80 without the wiring harness, and works great with the DC Control unit.

Also, here's a good write-up on installing that fan with a DC Control unit.

pretty much any medium sized junkyard fan wil work great, just test it with a battery before you leave the junkyard. I think the one on my radiator now is a taurus fan, it pushes lots of air and works great. I also, have 160* thermostat.

The T-bird fans are the same as the Mark VIII - I bought mine for $40 and use the dccontrol unit - works great. I had toi trim the shroud about 3/4" to get it to fit between the pump pulley and the radiator though, not a big deal.

the reason the Mark VIII is better is cause of the fan blade design. i don't know all the technical terms of pitch in relation to speed to length of blade and other mumbo jumbo. ford designed it to be that way. thats all i know. email the guy at DCC and he can prob tell you better than i can.

currently i am using a fan off of a 3.0 taurus. it seems to work ok, but i want more fan, so i'll prob switch to a lincoln fan soon.

I would reccommend the TBird fan, I just picked one up at the junkyard from a '96. it was only 40 bucks.. but Ive seen them going for $85. I also have seen the same fan in the 93 bird also, but don't know all the years, and I think they came in both the v8 and 3.8 versions in the 90's
