Hey guys, yesterday I bought some trottle body cleaner and cleaned out the TB. I did not take the TB off, I just opened the butterfly and cleaned both sides of it. I also took the MAF off and cleaned that as well. When I re-installed the CAI back on the TB the car will not idle at all. The thing is running ridiculously rough. It will not stay on at all unless I give it some gas. It actualy will not even go into the higher rpms. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? I checked to see if I pulled of a sensor or vacum hose but they are all in place. There is also smoke coming from the tail pipes. Can someone please tell me what the hell happend and how do I get my car idling better?

maybe the IAC was hit in the process or just disrupted somehow, like leaning on it or a tool, and it is not functioning - i know that the car will not idle and will not stay running if the IAC is F**ed up, my car's IAC is messed up, and it doesnt stay running, but eventually it smooths out - good luck

If you used high pressure t/b cleaner on your MAF, it probably broke the element. Time for a new MAF

Once cleaned my TB and IAC with cleaner exactly as you did..it never idled properly again for 2 months..better check your maf for damage

Actually there is a note on the throttle body that tells you not to spray any cleaner in it. If I remember right there is a factory coating that you will remove if you sprayed it.

You shouldn't use T/B cleaner on anything lol.... We only use Carb and Choke cleaner at work (Ford) on t/b services because t/b cleaner can damage stuff.

As an aside it sounded like the TB cleaner was sprayed while the motor was shut down. Isn't it supposed to be running?

Non-Ammonia window cleaner is alcohol based. It doesn't get much gentler than alcohol, and the q-tips work way better because the wires usually need some sort of rubbing to get the crap off, unless you want to spray loads and loads on it. A q-tip cotton tip can't possibly damage the wires unless you use a lot of force or something and snap them.
The wires themselves are actually quite rigid...
The way those wire work, you don't have to snap them to throw off the readings. Just a slight stretch is bad news. I would never recommend touching the wires with anything. I think it would be worth spraying an entire bottle, to keep from damaging those wires. My opinion.
