Tech differences between 98 Cobra and GT?

Couple questions...

1. Is there a site somewhere that compares the technical/component differences between a GT and a Cobra?

2. What is the cheapest, easiest way to turn a GT into a Cobra-Killer?

3. Are there any insurance company recommendations for V8 Mustangs? :p

I'm looking at getting either a 98 GT Coupe or Conv. I used to have a 66 Mustang that I worked on alot and I would love to get back into it with a daily driver.

off hand, the cobra is a 4.6L 4V with 305 hp (i think) and the GT is a 4.6L 2V with 225 hp, 96& 97 were 215 according to ford. That should be fly wheel HP not RWHP. of course they had diff intake setup up and what not. And i dont think the cobra had an IRS in them in 1998. other than that not really sure off the top of my head. you prob already knew this though. if not hope it helps. i would listen to stang man and talk to the guy at www.modularpowerhouse.com good luck man

If you want a Cobra killer get a coupe. SN-95 Mod motor cars are heavy to start with and the convertible is about 400lbs heavier than a similar coupe.

Best way IMO, is a Pro-Charger blower and the PI upgrade, but you need to put low compression pistons in the engine cause the PI swap on the '96-'98 engine makes the compression too high.

I am contemplateing this very build with my '98 GT Coupe. Steel crank, H-beam rods, low compression pistons, PI swap, 12 psi Procharger.

or you could just buy a PI motor.... unless you were wanting to buy all forged stuff

some people have budgets & then other prefer the "sleeper" approach. although no mustang is really a sleeper, those are the years everyone expects to be "slow". why did you start out with a 95 automatic? everyone has their reasons for wanting what they want

IMO - anytime you want to build a blown car, steel crank, proper rods and pistons are not 'options'. They are gotta haves. If I spend $4-$5K on a setup and have the junkie cracked metel con rods break and F stuff up, I'd be hyper p'd off. I like thigns to be over engineered for safety and strength. Kinda like insurance against breakage.

a '96 gt will be alot less $$$ than an 'o1 gt


you could take that extra cash and put it into new heads/forged internals and run more boost safely than a stock '99+ and spend near the same amount of money
