I have a new 2007 Mustang GT automatic, Shaker hood with traction control that I plan to drag race. Questions:

1) At what mileage should I wait to drag race it? A salesman told me after 5,000 miles.

2) Does anyone have experience using traction control in the 1/4? Is it good to use during a launch and then turn off during the run? Or leave it off entirely. I have heard that you lose 30 hp with it on.

3) What technique do you use to get a good launch?

4) I had my car Superchips performance programed. What mods have you found that cut your 1/4 mile time? What is the best bang for your buck on lowering 1/4 mile time. I am thinking drag radials.

Leave the traction control off, and leave on the footbrake at 1600 rpm for starting point, and raise rpm from there. anything over 1000 miles will be fine, we've raced our's from the get go. Get yourself some M&H 275/60/17 Dragradials and some 4:10's and a programer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your salesman told you when to drag race??? I wonder if the service man who does warranty repair knows that and would have a problem with it??

Thanks for the inside tips. .

I have heard that 3.73 gears are better for an auto though. I have had my car Superchips performance programmed. Drag radials should cut a couple tenths of second off 1/4 mile time from what I have read. Any reason why M&H are better than BF Goodrich or Mickey Thompson?

The salesman's point about 5,000 miles was it was better to break in the engine so that parts loosen up before taxing it.

With my mods, street tires at 33 PSI, launched around 1700-1800 RPM and TCS off. Here is my best run(E.T. wise)...my best MPH was 104.34

RT........ .181
60'....... 2.032
1/8...... 8.601
MPH..... 82.65
1/4...... 13.345
MPH.... 104.11

Next time I go back to the track, I will experiment with lower air pressures for better 60' times.

Only because they are 28 inches tall, and the other are 26 inches tall, they look better, stay away from bfg and nitto, the Mt and M&H and the new goodyears are the best.

Yea, wait a bit more then a thousand miles. First few thousand should help the motor break in... after that though, your fine.

Most modern motors break in within 500 miles, no need to wait any more than 1000 for sure.
