Hey guys, thanks for all the help wiht the thermostat, that RTV crap seems to work so far... ::fingers crossed:: my AODE seems to shift smoother now too. wonder why....

Anways, I changed the thermostat cause my temp gauge has been reading colder than my normal running temp. Usually it's between the "N" and the "O" but lately it's been fluxuating anywhere from the NORMAL range line to the first part of the N going up and down every so many minutes.

Any of you have any idea what's going on???

Well, in the begining, it goes up, then when the stat opens, it drops back down...Then it goes up, and comes back down when the fan goes on...Usually, on our gauges, the variations are so quickly evident, as is on the sweep gauges. Maybe it's time for an Autometer.

I would not be trying to infer much at all from the stock gauges. I would follow Rob's advice and get a decent gauge.

Good luck.

I'm with everyone else here. Somebody told me a while back that stock gauges are the biggest piece of automotive garbage to ever grace the dashboard of a mustang, and they were right. I installed my autometer gauges, and I found out just how wrong my stock ones were. Sitting at a steady 185* (according to the AM) for 30 minutes, and my stock gauges would fluctuate between the "N" and the "M". Get some better gauges. Good luck

When you changed the stat did you flush the system? Mine had a lot of sludge in it... I ended up with 3 gallon containers of antifreeze that I caugt and had almost an inch of sludge in the bottom of 2 of them... also had another inch or so in the bottom of my overflow tank...

what kind of sludge, that doesnt sound very good to me. When I first drained mine after winter I found very little "sludge in mine" and I bought my car with 130k on it.
