I was wondering what controls the temp sensor. For the last week my temp guage has not budged from below 130. I know its been really really cold here but all the other vehicles I drive get up to operating temp within 5-10 min of driving. The guage was working and all of a sudden doesnt anymore. The car is running rich also so thats the other way I know it is not getting up to temp. I installed a new mr gasket thermostat and still doesnt read anything. I took the car out for a while and really beat on it to get it hot and still nothing. I turned off the electric fan and let it idle after that for about 10-15 mins and still nothing. What else could it be?

Running rich and running cold don't necessarily correlate.

Install a real gauge if you dont have one. Otherwise you're trying to do diagnostics based on an inaccurate and possibly broken gauge.

Good luck.
