Temp too high???

I got a 2000 GT convertible. Live in FL its about 90 degrees outside and when i drive with the top down and have the air blowing on max is that bad for your car? I know it wont keep it cool but atleast the cold air blowing in the face helps when its so hot outside.

Another thing i've noticed is after a while of running the AC with the top down and 90 degrees outside the AC doesn't run as strong and doesn't blow cold air...my temp gauge is almost at High. If I dont have the AC on it stays in the middle. Anything i should do? besides put my top up.

Well, I will admit that I have run the a/c with the top down. However, due to the fact that it is wasteful of gas I try to avoid it. You should do what you have to do I guess...

Anyways, yes your car will run hotter with the a/c on. If you are ever stuck in idling traffic on a hot day you should try not to use it to avoid overheating.

Flush the system and change coolant. Replace t-stat with 180* t-stat.Check for leaks. Even with the top down and the AC on blast it shouldnt get that hot. Its 108* here and I run at 210*-215* ish, which is right below the center.

Yeah, that is true "almost on high" is way higher than mine ever gets... I guess I missed that part...

Also, try to add some Redline Water Wetter to the coolant, it will help keep the temp down a little.

As for the thermostat, be extremely careful when removing the bolts that hold it on. If you strip one or crack your intake manifold you will be sorry...

No, as the others have said, it's not normal for the engine to get that hot. If the temp still gets that warm after doing what waws already suggested, take it to a radiator shop and have the problem fixed. Engines die when overheated.

Mine ran hot all the time, when I got my predator and checked the fan settings I found out why. The hi-speed fan wasn't set to come on till 228. Since I have lowered all fan on/off settings 10 degrees, installed a 180 thermostat, installed a Fluidyne radiator, new polished water pump (because it's pretty), and a trans cooler. I also relocated my autometer temp sending unit from the block to the thermostat housing and added a trans temp sending unit using a SPDT switch so a single gauge shows both temps by flipping the switch.
