Temperature Probe Clarification Please

I just picked up a 92 Gt that has an electric fan already installed with a switch that can turn it off and on from inside the car. The teperature probe is coiled up behind the adjustment knob for the control unit does anyone know where it should be in the radiator I've read a lot of different things?

Mine is stuck between some fins in the radiator, I bought it like that, it works, I have not touched it.

For most controllers, the probe goes near the radiator inlet.
