cobras have irs (independant rear suspension) gt and mach have solid rear. the irs is bad for drag racing and weighs more. gives the car a sluggish feel form the start. of course this can be corrected with mods. gt can be som pretty quick cars if you really do them up.

with most of the boltons on the gt and a little weight reduction the gt can be fairly quick. i have most of the mods you were planning and more. car feels good. this spring i was going to buy ported heads and gears. that would pretty much put me in the rwhp of the mach. the car would be flying. even with just gears on mine it should be pretty fast.

however somthing came up so i will be selling the car in the spring.

the 99 was delivered with less hp than advertised, which is why there was no '00 cobra, they were too busy trying to fix all the 99's. But the fix was just an array of bolt on parts to make up for the lost HP. in 01 all was well and some stock cars went low 13's in the 1/4

FYI: a post-fix '99 and an '01 will essentially deliver the same performance (all other variables kept constant).

Not every 01 was also "stronger," as a handful of them have suffered from pinging/detonation issues straight from the factory. There was/is even a PCM reflash available for them at the dealership (as one possible solution to the problem). Thankfully, only a minority suffered from pinging/detonation.

My 01 Cobra went 13.3 at 106 with just a catback and midpipe

The IRS is difficult to launch. the 99/01s don't feel as strong as they are IMHO.
They just need to rev

My buddies 01 GT made higher numbers that my cobra until 3500 rpm and after 4k it was ugly. The 4v loves being over 4k and 6k is goood fun!!

They only made 99-01 SVT Cobra's (not including the 00 Cobra R and the 02 "Australian models"...)

I just drove an 04 Mach 1 saturday and chirped second and third gear

They pull pretty strongly...the Gt isn't to far behind it in my opinion...but oh how I love the Mach (shaker/wrapped seats/trimming/and the list goes on)...

Some of the 99 Cobra's are a bit down on their first desired power because of a mistake SVT made...a lot of them have had the intake fixed...but some are still roaming around with about 295-300hp instead of 320 or whatever...

You probably had TC on

I've driven a near stock 01 Cobra (stock gears too) and it put my 02 GT to shame

I wasn't pointing fingers at your previous Mach statement, but before you start pointing them, you could stand to follow your own advice. I was just reinforcing the fact.

You can chirp 4th?

Anyways...I was just adding my "chirping story" for an added effect...just because one can "chirp" the tires doesn't mean it has power...

I've seen a 91 Metro chirp 2nd gear and when I had bolt-ons, 373's, full exhaust, on street tires my 5.0 wouldn't chirp second...but now it spins in second badly after my h/c/i a couple months ago
