Test your brake knowledge

Hey guys...I need some help...I was helping my friend change his pads and rotors on the front of his 2000 cougar and when we got everything finished there is a grinding noise when he applies the brakes. Please no jokes about the pads being in backwards lol. I was thinking maybe we didnt get the protective coating off of the rotor? not really sure...Also there is a high pitched squeeking coming from the back driver side wheel...any suggestions there??? I read another post about flash rusting could that be it?? not real sure. Brakes arent my thing, I would appreciate some help. Thanks

to the best of my knowledge i figure there might be a high spot on the pad. when my dad changes his brakes he sometimes has to file them a bit. i also know that you can buy brake anti-squeak stuff.



p.s. i have a silver V6, too.

well, u have to break them in a bit, unless its been a while? as you see, there are grooves in the rotors, caused by average use, (think vinyl record), and your old brakes were form-fitted to them, and now ure new ones are not, so u have to do some heavy braking to get them to fit into the grooves again (more surface area, more braking) i believe that would cause some minor squeking, but if its been a while, just go back, take them off, and re install... sometimes you will find you had something silly go wrong =P

what brakes are they? I heard Hawk pads like to do that.

he put new rotors on it as well, i am going to guess that maybe one of the pistons on the caliper is in a bind and only one is pushing the bad at and angle instead of flat. just a wild guess, there is not to much that can go wrong when the rotors and the pads are new
