Does anyone know what RPM this cam is good up to? I dropped 4/10th's off of my ET by shifting at 5500 and not 6000rpm but I know my Performer 5.0 intake is only good up to 5500rpm. All i know about the cam is the lift, .499/.500 and the LSA? is 112
I don't know either. I don't think I have seen anyone really say where that cam is supposed to drop off. On mine it pulls all the way to the rev limiter, but you can notice that it does fall off right at 6k. When I have been out playing, I have noticed it feels best when I shift it right at 5700.(when running it hard I always speed shift) Do you speed shift or just a fast granny shift?
What's the diff. between quick granny shift and speed shifting?
sorry to be ignorant, but whatever i do when i run it hard must be bad on the trans cuz i've owned the car for a year and the trans is apart on the bench right now. Just wondering what ya'll do and how i could get good times W/O killing it? (aside from more mods...)
Fast granny shifting is actually letting off the gas some and clutching/shifting as quick as you can. When I say "speed shifting" I don't let off the gas at all, I keep my right foot planted and clutch/shift as fast as I can. Nothing ignorant in asking a question.

If you don't let off of the gas, couldn't you overrev your motor and blow something up? Although, that's probably more of a problem for me, since i'm just going to port and polish my stock heads, right?
So basically it all depends on how good ya are... Hmmm, well, stock i tore up my tranny and ran a 15.1 @ 97 with a friend, subs, and NOTHING taken out.... we're talking STOCK. my buddy even said it's fast, he doesn't know why, so i started looking for a chip or something, never found anything, so i bought an H pipe, threw that on, a BBK.. etc. etc. that's my story, but it's done for now...
as long as you hit the gears you will be okay. I have missed 3rd a few times. Granted it isn't very good to shift one the way I do, but it gets the job done. I have seen the rev limiter a few times when I have missed a shift, but that's what it is there for, to keep you from overreving and tearing something up. BUT, if you run spray or a blower/turbo, hitting the rev limiter is def. not a good thing, it could get expensive quickly. I have been running a 88 4cyl T-5 behind my 5.0 for a year now and I am hard on that trans, we gave it a couple months to live according to what we had heard, but it is still doing good, since I put the new engine in though, and have had it running about 2 months now, I can not speed shift 3rd, it will not go in, no if's, and's, or but's about it, it won't go. I have to ease off the throttle some for it to go in. I do a better job of shifting under WOT than I do just driving around town.
