i'd like to start off by telling a brief story about my trials of me and my car.
as a kid, i always knew i was going to own a mustang as my first car. i know it wouldn't be a nice one, but that was 1/2 the fun, putting my hard earned money and time into it, and build my dream car. come my 17th birthday, my 'rents bought me a 66 coupe for $3500. 4 months later, i had bought a welder, replaced 3/4 of the floor pans, replaced the lower cowl ends, 4 months after that, it's back from the paint shop, engine and tranny rebuilt, and now it runs like a kitten.
currently saving up to rebuilt the suspension and minor interior things, like carpeting etc.
for 3 months during the summer, i worked at a place that only restored classic muscle cars, almost exclusively mustangs. 5 days a week, i'd work on someone else's mustang for 8 hours, doing always the ****ty hard uncomfortable jobs, seeing as i was the low man on the totem pole, but i love every second of it. then i'd come home, and work on my car for another few before the sun set, as well as weekends. so not only did i learn correctly, but i essentially did about a bazillion times more work than i would have if i did just my own car. by no means am i an expert, i am still learning, and will continue to do so.
however, i definitely know, and fully understand and appreciate, the kind of work, time, and money it takes to work on these old cars. i've payed for everything, save the initial purchase of the car, out of my own pocket.
this is just the first project of many to come, all of which shall be mustangs :-D
i feel that even though i was essentially handed my first car, i redeemed some face by almost building it from the ground up again. i can't tell you how much this board has been of help, as well as all of the great members that make this such a wonderful community.
