I just tore down a customer motor with 65K that detonated from plug backing out he was using RP oil for years and it was as clean as a whistle. I couldn't believe it.
You add enough detergent to any oil and it'll ensure that engine compents sparkle when torn down. It doesn't mean that its good for the engine though.
The fact remains, that almost none of Royal Purple's claims, have ever been scientifically proven. Great for marketing, but if they're lying about the results of those claims, just what else are the holding back from the consumer, or exagerating about?
Nope....I'll buy whatever is on sale thanks. Especially for gear lube. The Ford Motorcraft is you'll ever need. Why spend the bucks just to have some fance purple crap in your transfer case you'll never see.
