It's August 1st...time to lay down the smack.

Games start August 30th with one being my Tigers against the Miss St Bulldogs. I feel sorry for dem dawgs.

Start off with where your loyalties lie...in case some of us have forgotten.

First game, September 1, 2007; Virginia Tech vs. East Carolina U.

Prediction: VT Blowout; QB getting ready to take on the LSU Tigers, mainly focusing on pocket awareness.

its going to be a long season, how bout we sit back and enjoy it.

BTW, his nickname is Onion. So when I say Onion from here on out, I mean Coach Shannon.

i'm awaiting the first game, UF vs western kentucky. i have a feeling tebow's opening game is going to be an annihilation....

hopefully we have another chance this year, and hopefully play a good team in a bowl game this time (though i loved whooping osu, it wasnt really that "good" of a game, kinda boring...)

LSU is my biggest worry this year, we'll have to wait and see

ESPN/USA Today Poll:

1. Southern California (45)

2. LSU (4)

3. Florida (9)

4. Texas

5. Michigan (2)

6. West Virginia

7. Wisconsin

8. Oklahoma

9. Virginia Tech

10. Ohio State

11. Louisville

12. California

13. Georgia

14. Auburn

15. Tennessee

16. Rutgers

17. UCLA

18. Penn State

19. Nebraska

20. Arkansas

21. Florida State

22. TCU

23. Boise State

24. Hawaii

25. Texas A&M

Looking at them briefly I think Florida is ranked too high. Probably should be swapped with VT. Ohio State? Not sure since they have lost some key people. Someone closer to the program jump in. Same goes for Michigan.

Six SEC teams in there...but Arkansas is going to impload. No way they can sustain a season with one guy.

Pre-Season polls are a joke, yet they have so much impact on the regular season. I love CFB but it has the worst rankings/championship scenario's in all of sports.

Play on the field should be the only deciding factor, not biased human polls and computers.

Go Hogs!! I hope we at least have a halfway decent year.

I agree with Helty, they need to cut out all the computer/human poll generated rankings and go by how everyone does on the field.

Then again, i'm looking forward to the NFL this year - Go Patriots! w00t!

The BCS polls don't come out until after the 6th game. But since they put more emphasis on the human polls now they can be skewed a bit. I believe the strength of schedule should be more of a factor the way it used to be. But then again when the human polls put someone in the top 10 early, then are exposed by losses, it should all wash out by the time the BCS puts theirs together.

Everyone wants a playoff...I'm betting after the BCS contract runs out there will be some serious talk. The bowls are complaining that there will be less interest in their games but a playoff could incorporate all of the bigger bowls in the playoff system. The first thing is the conferences with championship games would have to get rid of them. Then you take the top 8 teams and run the playoffs through the major bowl games. They would then alternate the championship game each season. The only problem is the bowls would have to wait 7 years between NC games whereas they only have 4 between them now.

Well, the system is so different because there is no level bar in CFB. I mean, when VT plays William and Mary, we all know its going to be a blowout (ACC team vs a AA school).

The only division that really gets shafted is the SEC, because they are all really good but then kick the **** out of each other during the season.

My problem with pre-season polls is this: While they are "educated" guesses, based on a programs success the previous year, then taking into consideration who was lost, who returns, etc.......its still just that, a GUESS.

The problem now is teams who are given the benefit of the doubt and ranked in the top 5, top 10, etc, have more of a fall back cushion if they lose a game or even two. If USC starts out at 6-0, then loses a game, they fall to 4th or 5th in a worse case scenario. Now, take a team from outside the top 25 starts out at 6-0, makes their way to the top 20, then they lose a game, they're probably dropping down to 25 if not out of the polls. You've got two 6-1 teams, one is very much in the hunt for a National Title and the other is hoping to run the table and maybe get an at-large BCS bid, but will probably settle for the Gator or Chick-fil-a Bowl.

All this because the teams success/failure the previous year.

There shouldnt be ANY polls that have an impact on the BCS standings until week 5 or 6. And honestly, as much money thats is made off these big time bowl games, I dont see a playoff system anytime soon. If the Rose, Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar bowls are integrated into a playoff system, that takes a lot of the lustre away from those games because they become a stepping stone instead of having the limelight all to themselves.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree pretty much with the Top 10 list. The programs haven't lost that many devastating players. so I think they are even for the most part.

What are they now in comparison with the NCG? Just another bowl game. At least if they are used as part of the playoff plan there will be interest. Now the only real interest are the fans of the teams playing.

Hey Im all for a playoff, but its not gonna happen anytime soon. There are too many greedy people in powerful positions.

The Rose, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta bowls are hardly "just another bowl game". The MPC Computers bowl, is just another bowl game; trust me I know this. The schools get big money for just playing in BCS games. They get a primetime spot on national television during the first week of the new years, and you're kidding yourself if you think fans of other schools dont watch those games. Miami hasnt made a BCS game in 3 years but Ive watched every one of them since.

Look, the BCS is a sham, the pre-season polls are crap, even if they do turn out to be somewhat accurate. They still hurt teams that dont start with a high ranking and reward teams for the previous years success. What college football needs is EXACTLY what college basketball has (obviously not 64 teams, but the principle is there). But, the corporate sponsorship is always gonna want their hand in the cookie jar.

I read today that the Pac 10 and Big 10 don't want the integrety of the Rose "tarnished" with other conferences in that game. They are for a plus one...playing the bowl tie-ins and whoever is ranked 1 and 2 after those play for a national title but do not want what all the other conferences want and that is a seeded semi-final. The Pac 10 commissioner has threatened to pull out of the BCS if they screw with the Rose so don't look for any changes any time soon. We're stuck with what we've got.

Tim? Auburn? :uzi: AUBURN?! You've got to be kidding me... crapola
