I am in the middle of a rebuild right now, the parts are in the sig. Alto makes the Red Eagle clutches for Performance Automatic and Level 10. The Alto Red Eagle also came with a gasket kit that seemed to be packaged by Level 10. I have a few other parts that I am going to order, like a B&M hammer shifter, mechanical diode and a hardened input shaft.

The Alto Red Eagle rebuild kit came in at around $265.00, give or take a few bucks. Basically the transbrake will allow me to reach full stall rpm at launch at the track. You cant do that with applying the brake and the gas at the same time... I wont be the one actually rebuilding the tranny, a family friend will be doing it for like $300 bench labor.

The valvebody/transbrake came together. I got a pretty good price on it for just under $500. The full manual part of it is where you have to shift the car from gear to gear on your own, no automatic ability anymore. I have driven a foxbody with a combo very similar to what mine is, with the only difference being his was an aod. That car shifted extremely quick and hard but was very streetable for daily driving usage.

A transbrake locks the tranny so that you can stall to maximum rpm's.

A full manual VB requires you to manually shift through the gears just like a manual transmission car, minus the clutch of course!!!

VB's typically DO NOT come w/ a shifter. I'm sure any of them will work w/ the stock shifter or any aftermarket one.

They can work with the stock shifter with no problems. I will be getting a B&M hammer shifter though, I have heard they shift much easier into each gear with less chance of skipping a gear. The stock shifter tends to slide right over second sometimes.

Lentech AODE valve body (Manual and auto control)
B&M Hammer shifter - can't beat the looks either!
Synthetic fluids.
Tranny Cooler.
Higher stall torque converter. Many companys make them, Ford racing now has 3000 RPM stall converters for AODE, list price is $350

I called Art Carr. Here is what they have and the prices.
#22251 Super Rebuild Kit $299.00

This kit contains all the friction plates & steel plates needed to overhaul the transmission. Contains a complete bushing kit, bearing kit, filter, gaskets and seals. The common complaint with the AOD is premature failure of third gear. To cure this we upgrade the direct clutch pack with Raybestos Blue Plate Frictions & Mean Treated Steels.

#21364 Mechanical diode kit $229.00

This kit comes with everything necessary to convert over to the updated mechanical diode one way clutch. The factory one way clutch was prone to failure even in stock applications.

#22000 Hi-Tech Valve Body Kit $66.00

This kit is complete with everything you need to modify your transmission for firmer shifts.

#10501 Deep Aluminum Pan $169.00

Our pan will hold an additional 2 quarts of transmission fluid, also has a magnetic drain plug & cooling fins.

#22500 Direct Input Shaft $149.00

This shaft has become a problem when increasing the power. It has been known to break on a wide open 2-3 shift. Our shaft is made of superior 300M material.

Rich said of the parts, you could probably do without the Deep pan, especially if you have a cooler. I already have the cooler, Shift kit, and PI Converter.

I only need the rebuild kit, diode kit and shaft. I found a shop that will do the labor for $425. This shop has 700+ HP cars running at Moroso.

He said my AODE will be well fit for 500-600HP with those parts installed. Im looking at about $1100 for the TOTAL job, since I already have the converter, cooler and Valve body.

I will tell you one thing when building these aod-e's, if you do it right the cost of it gets up there. But as many will say, do it right the first time and you wont have to worry about it again for a long time.

That is why I talked to ART Carr. Rich even said I did well having spent $800 for the Stallion!

They recommended a shop down near me. THis place is run by a family..Not some dude named Frankie! The guy I spoke with even drives a stang.

I didn't omit L10, as I said I know there are more. I just named those I was familiar with.

I have talked to most of the after-market tranny places, Art Carr, Level 10, Performance Automatic, and Lentech, and from what I can tell the clutches for the kits are made by Raybestos or Alto. The after-market guys just repackage other companies products. I am pretty sure the mechanical diode that the after-market guys sell is a stock Ford part. Um...there are a few other things out there that are repackaged too, just cant think of them. As I said with my Alto Red Eagle kit, the gaskets in there are packaged by Level 10. I still need to order a few things like the hardened input shaft, deep pan, tranny cooler, shifter, and fluid. Besides the input shaft, the rest will probably come from either Summit or Jeg's.

A question for RC, have you looked at how the shop hooked your tranny cooler up? Is the stock cooler still in place? If not did they just use rubber hose to connect the stock tubing to the new cooler? Thanks for any help you can provide.
