I mean.. Look at that hand rail!!! Way more than what I had to hold on to. LoL

Didnt have the rails on the one i built ,i bet a bed cover would look good also

It was actually fairly easy to build ,you remove the quarter window ,cut the roof loose and remove the amout of the roof that would have been the quarter window. The bed area was just adding sheet metal .
Glass for the doors was another story ,i used lexan and heated it to the correct bow in the side

You actually only remove the rear half of the roof ,it splits around the middle ,the front up to the windshield remains in place. The hard part is the long butt weld across the middle of the roof when you join the two half back together

I just rembered i actually built two of them haha ,it was a long time ago . The first was a 66 ,the second was a 68 . The 68 was easier because the roof is slightly different and was easier to cut and splice

Cool ! Stock wheelbase? I haul off about 500 # of waste/scrap a week from the shop. I would have to have the tail end fold down like a tailgate to slide an engine block out of the bed. I guess it could be done and still look like the back end of that when folded up

It could be done but mine did not have a tailgate . Wheel base stays the same ,the back end of the roof is just moved forward the width of the quarter window ,but there is some fill in work with sheet metal

For a tailgate, It looks like the bed floor/tailgate piano hinge pivot point would have to be based off of the bottom of the bumper. The quarter extensions, tail panel tail lights and bumper would all be the outer skin of the tailgate. I have not sketched anything out on paper or looked at other than pictures but I wonder if the bottom of the bumper is going to want to "dig in" to the lower valance when the tail gate is being opened. Maybe hinge the valance at the bottom and as the tail gate opens the top of the valance pivots inward between the part of the quarters under the bumper...
