Well, I was asking myself at work Friday why I haven't seen any GTOs on the street yet, so Saturday I went to a dealership to see if they were even on sale. Yes, there was one. I almost missed it. To say the least, the styling is as uninspired as it can get. I thought I was looking at a grand am until I saw the GTO badge. Then I looked at the priced... $37000... Only thing sillier than a GTO is a subaru with its 300hp, goofy spoiler and hood scoop.

I didnt even know the damn thing was on sale yet. And holy ****, for 37000 you can get a fully loaded Mach 1, nearly a new Cobra, prolly a used 03 Cobra, or even a brand new Gt vert with nearly 10 grand to spare for mods. thats a serious amount of cash for a new car. I'm yet to see any too, but i probably woulndt even know if i saw one, like you said, i would think it to be a new Grand Am/Prix.

Yeah, the pretty much look like a "new age" grand am/prix....nothing too special other than it has a v8, but i bet it weighs quite a bit.

Pontiac is a joke. W/O the Firebird and Trans-Am, they are going to go under. Every car they have is a Grand-Am with a different badge. It's sad though, the GTO...I mean, the old school GTO's were pretty cool I thought. But, I wouldn't be caught dead in a new one. The Ford dealer by my house sells hardtop Cobras NEW for $34,000 and Convertables for $37,000. I'd much rather have one of those than a family sedan, thanks.

they gotta cover those shipping freigh charges from Australia. It couldn't be cheap to send tha car over here from Aussie, besides they'd pour in from California wouldn't they?? Why GM decided not to carry any RWD vehicles is beyond me. They shot themselves in the foot,besides killing american jobs by building that stuff elsewhere

I like the fact that they were willing to bring an Australlian car to the US. But trying to sell it as an American muscle car is total BS. The price is also ridiculous.

But if Ford imported the Falcon, I'd be at the dealer the day it's available. Especially if they gave us the turbo Inline 6.

The GTO is built in America, not Down Under. The Monaro looks far more aggressive than the American GTO which looks like all the rest of the ugly Pontiacs. The commercials they run on TV are not good ether, having that black dude do the voice over makes the GTO seem like a weak car. Fuel for the soul how dumb is that? They should have hired that guy who dose the voice on all the movie trailers... He could make the car sound better than what it is.

$37k for a Mach 1???? I coulda bought one for 22k when they were selling off the '03's. Also, my friend bought an '03 Cobra for $26 w/ only 3k miles on it LAST SUMMER.

Basically, $37k is even more of a rip-off than you thought. GTO's value

Eventually they will all be built here in America, but at least originally they were built in Australia. I'm not sure when it will be moved to America though.

BTW, I saw a GTO running high 11's at the track a couple weeks ago.... with a torque converter and a 100 shot Mach 1's are hitting high 11's with bolt-ons and suspension

your right. The GTO has a 3 year run and only 16000 GTO's will be coming to the states each year.

The more I look at it, it comes with an IRS and a far better engine than the ford stuff, it's not a bad car, it just looks gross. I find it odd that Fords Cobra R only came with the 5.4L V8, and yet the WS6 has had the 5.7L the whole time, and now the GTO is getting it.

I don't think he meant $37k for a Mach. They sale for 28-29 here... last week they were selling 04 v6 mustangs for $14.7. getting ready for the 05s no doubt.

Your right, it isnt a bad car. Actually I think its a great step in the right direction. Some critics are saying this is what the GTO would have eventually become, if it were allowed to continue til today.

But IMO though, the GTO has always been about affordable performance. With the discontinuation of the Firebird/Trans Am, there is no affordable performance car in ironically, GM's performance division.

I think it fills a nice niche in the market, right below corvette, yet above Camaro/Firebird in terms of market placement. Its direct competition for Ford's Pride and Joy and probably will sell.

But I think GM should have tried to appeal to the Younger crowd with a more affordable version, in keeping with the GTO's heritage of value + bang for the buck.

Future plans are supposed to be a totally American-designed RWD platform in 2006/7 that will underpin the new GTO and a new Camaro. Firebird's existence is still in question. However, Camaro's is not.

Actually I like the 2000 Cobra R engine. GM's insistence on OHV will eventually reach its repective wall sooner or later.

A friend of mine just baught one for 27K with his Gm discount.. it was listed 32k

Dont know who the hell is selling them at 37k thats insane.

most of the dealers around here are selling around 33-30K range..

Oh yeah, like the chevys SS truck, I havent seen a new GTO ANYWHERE. But I agree with everyone else, all the pontiacs look identical, why bother getting a GTO? All youre buying is the legacy. Grand Prix, Bonneville, Grand Am, GTO theyre all the same stupid ugly car.

As for the aussie topic, I totally would LOVE the falcon being sold in the states. I mean hell, they usta with the super old body style. Only recently have I learned that they still made them. Whats weird is our 92 capri. It was built by the Ford motor company of australia. They didnt make many and didnt sell many either. That sure killed off that car, but I think the falcon will be a good seller here. I mean, ford lucked out with the focus and cougar, similiar cars like the falcon and concept capri probally would sell very very well here... ...that is, if the SUV trend starts to drop.

Ford's future performance car lineup is coming together with the resurrection of a classic nameplate.

The automaker has confirmed that the two most potent versions of its Australian-engineered Falcon sport sedan will be offered for sale in American Ford dealerships as early as this Fall. The car will be offered in two trim levels the XR6-T and XR8.

The XR6-T will offer an advanced turbocharged and intercooled inline six cylinder engine that was engineered in Australia. The XR8 comes with Ford's familiar 5.4 liter V8 engine which has never appeared in anything but a truck in North America. Both will be available with a choice of automatic or six-speed manual transmissions.

The Falcon is slated to be released initially in very limited quantities and once production is fully ramped up, the car will be produced in the hundreds anually at Ford's assembly plant in Australia.

Ford is also evaluating the market for the Falcon Utility (called a Ute in Australia), essentially a two door car with a truck-like bed and gate.

Final options and pricing have not yet been set, but are expected to be announced by early July.

$37,000 is a joke. don`t get me wrong it is a step inthe right direction for GM to bring back the GTO. they should Import the Holden UTE SS and put El Camino badges on it

i just looked at a new Mystic convertable cobra for $41,000 at Tom Clark Ford in Greensburg Pa.

i think i`d rather have the cobra over the GTO any day for only $4,000 more
