I do basically the same method. However, I never torque the intake down. I just go hand tight with a 1/4" ratchet. Torquing the intake can cause the heads to lift.

I've never herd of this.... You would think the intake would give before the heads would....

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

The intake gets wedged down between the hedas too much, and pushes the heads sideways, which can cause the gaskets to blow.

Its possible the v.c's/gaskets are the problem. You should see a trail though if it were and you'd feel oil around them. Your ventilation is fine. Do your breathers leak? I wasn't able to even go 1 mile on my car before the breathers were oil soaked and leaking onto the header

DING! We have a winner. It is the valve cover gasket. At least Ive found the source. have a new set of good gaskets coming at the end of the week

Glad you might have found the problem but in a way that sucks. Buy a new intake and it's VC gaskets I'd be pissed

Just wanted to ut my $.02 in....
I never use the gaskets, always a nice bead of RTV but the intake needs to be fit properly. I always torque the lower to 22lbs, it takes about 4 cycles to get it to seat properly, but the tq sequence should help you keep it straight. I also prefer to let it sit for atleast 24 hrs before running.

Glad to see you found your issue
