Hey guys,

I'm Alex and I'm new to the whole forum thing and the whole gearhead thing...

I've been wanting a project car for a while and finally I was able to get some $ saved up to get this guy.

The engine is in good shape so I want to do some work to the aesthetics before I go any further. Any tips on where I can get original parts?

Also need some new front seats... any recommendations? Racing seats would be nice...

Thanks guys look forward to being a member and learning and sharing w u guys! (And ladies I guess)

Best,

AC

That 84 looks like it has a ton of Aero-Nose parts installed.

No joke, even got the 1/4 windows. Those are usually never swapped out.

Also, SN-95 seats are nice and comfortable, swap right in, and are easy to find.

Show some picks of the front and back
If it has sport seats get them fixed, you can buy seat foam and upholstery it's not real hard to do. Race seats are uncomfortable for just riding around.

X2. I think I barely see from the picture that it does have the sport seats. Those are by far my favorite factory Mustang seats. Get some new foam and/or covers and hang onto them!

Man I'd kill for a set of halo sport seats....no not really. I'd love to find a set though. Parts ate available to redo them.

Also, any seat from early from 79 to 04 will bolt in. The newer seats sit higher so if you're tall your head will almost touch the headliner.

Welcome to the forum !!!

There's a nice active thread here by davedacarpainter ....he just redid his seats.

Hey guys thanks for the tips.

Here are some more pictures as requested...

If you guys can tell me what I'm looking at here under the hood too it would be great... no way to tell if it's a 302 or a 351 engine... plus the mods look a little ghetto...

Can't tell from that pic maybe someone else can,
Part number on intake? It should have a notation on the block some place, can't remember where.
See if you can get a socket to fit the lower bolt on the thermostat housing, if you cannot get a socket in there it's likely a 351, old trick, I think it works.

That doesn't look like an '84 to me. simple thing in the engine bay, the battery would be on the right side in an '84. More pictures of the engine bay please.

Electric fan too, not stock, but a good upgrade if done properly.

If it's not an '85 or earlier, then you have a carburetor swapped engine. This isn't bad to some of us, but there are a lot of people that will squeal here about that.

Post more pictures all around, one of the ID tag in the door too will tell everything if the door is original.

If it is an '84, LOTS of work was done to make it look like an '87 and up.

The brake booster and MC are '86 and before. You won't have any heat in the passenger compartment, the heater core isn't connected. No a/c though i think i see an evaporator core coming out of the firewall.

The interior is '86 and before.

Confusing car.

Nice mustang though, one way or the other.

Welcome to Stangnet.

Something does seem odd about it. Would a 84 carb car have a TFI distributor and a MAP/BAP sensor?

No, the tfi style distributor isn't from an 84. The correct distributor would look like this...

There's something fishy going on here... Either way, in order to get the car to run right that distributor needs to be changed to vacuum advance. I've ran carbed with tfi distributor for a long time but the car never saw its full potential.

Are there two round connectors laying disconnected behind the carburetor ( one black and one white ) ?

Let's see:

Oil pressure sending unit looks disconnected
3g alternator conversion
Is that an FMU at the bottom?
- Take off the Air Cleaner and send us a shot of that throttle body (or whatever ends up being under there)

I suspect some sort of fuel injection system with the TFI still in place and what looks like a fuel rail pressure gauge

Can't tell if those are Hotchkis caster/camber plates or Ebay
The windshield fluid reservoir is 85+ style
Looks like an un-capped plug on the vac tree against the firewall
The windshield wiper motor came from a salvage yard
Someone installed a firewall adjuster kit (and probably the clutch quadrant)
The battery relocation kit included the bunji-mod

I'm sure there's more...

Poor bastsrd... He's probably not coming back after this on slot of car bashery. "Hey I just got a new ride!" The judge and jury reply, "You got screwed, that thing sucks!"
