My woman just bought an explorer with the 5.0. Right away I've got conniving thoughts, as it has the heads I want for my '94 GT and also has the 3.73 setup. I've casually mentioned about swapping out some parts between the two vehicles, but she's objecting a little. The Explorer has 66K on it, which is pretty low for that year. Any good way to persuade her, or should I just swap what I need when she goes up to her sister's place in ID for a week next month?

Depending on how much she knows about cars, i'd feed her some BS about how the better performing GT40p's are bad on gas and her suv will be much more efficient with e7's.

if you was gonna slip her some money(even a thousand)m i would look for some better heads then gt40p's..... but thats just me....lol

lol a couple thousand for some explorer heads......

he might as well go buy some afr for that kinda cash

tell her she will get better gas millage with the smaller heads...... ..a little lie wont hurt her

While it is easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission... I would be hesitant...

I mean by the time you factor in the gaskets and additional time to do two head-swaps then you may as well jsut buy some $200 heads and put those on.

As for the gears, gears are cheap to begin with. It is the labor that kills you... Not to mention if it is a 4wd you have to swap the front gears in the explorer too...

Also parts are cheaper than a divorce... so no I wouldn't do it...

The SWAP.

If I were you...I wouldn't do it...but "I" would. But seriously something may not turn out right and go wrong and you would have some "splaining" to do. But if you are 100% sure everything will go right with particularly her car (Explorer), then let you conscience be your guide. But yeah this aint worth a divorce lol or for her to swap you out later...

At least do the intake swap. Even the Explorers GT40 style intake is far better than the stock GT.

I paid like $375 for a GT40P longblock. You get the heads and the intake, then you can also have a shortblock sitting around as a spare or to do a better build on.

That's a lot of trouble to go through for a set of so-so GT40P's and a set of gears (that can be had cheap as it is). To be honest....it sounds a little moronic to me. Don't be such a cheap skate and spring for a set of aftermarket aluminum heads. They've come down a lot in price and it just doesn't make sense to me to tear down two good running vehicles and burn a weeks worth of labor to pick up a measly 15-20hp on your Mustang.
