When I got into my car this morning i saw a strange looking Microchip on the floor by my seat. It is about an inch wide and says "the Silencer" on it, and it has a little push button with a light bulb icon on it as well (that does nothing when you push it. i thought nothing of it until i tried to start my car and it wouldnt even click. i then put 1+1 together and figured out that it should be plugged in under the drivers dash for the car to start and is very easily removed. is this a stock anti-theft device? (part of PATS?) if so what happens if i lose that little bastard?

you car is has a bomb on it. Do not go under 120mph.

I have no idea what that is. Look underneath the dash and look around.

Its a dealer installed "alarm" to get you to pay more $$. I had one on my Frontier. You should find the main plug under the dash, it will have a red L.E.D. that might be flashing. The part you found is the valet "key" . You plug that into the back of the part with the L.E.D. When its in and the button is pushed it arms the valet mode. I think the L.E.D. stays on and doesnt flash if its in valet mode.
Hope that helps.

Junk -- it simply splices in line with your starter wire. We used to run across them alot in cars in the mid 90s -- called them theft enhancers. Didn't stop people from paying upwards of $500 for them at the time of the sale. Car dealers pay about $9 each for them and typically have their make ready dept. install them.
