The SN65 project car

Hi All,

This weekend Wayne finished the drivers side fender and also blocked and primed the body for the last time (at least he hopes so).

I worked on the coolant lines. I have them all figured out. At this point I only have to find one more hose (from the radiator to the thermostat housing) and I am done.

Also, I am getting ready to order the stereo components. Here is a list of the items I think I need to order...

One Pioneer AVIC-D1 head unit
One Rockford Fosgate P3001 Sub-amp
One Rockford Fosgate P4004 4 channel amp
Four JL Audio UR525 speakers
One JL 10" subwoofer #???

Does the above sound like a good system???

I am also going to need all the assorted cables etc... Any recommendations on this would also be appreciated.

SOunds like it could be a decent system. Where are you going to locate all the speakers? A single 10" sub is good for low end filler. I A$$ume you are not trying to rattle windows ten blocks away (at least I hope you aren't one of those guys )

I have a JL 12w7 subwoofer and a JL 500.1 mono amp. This has been the most reliable, longest lasting system I have ever had. It is also louder than when I had 2 15" Kicker comepetion subwoofers (for those of you "trying to rattle windows ten blocks away") I think a 10" version of this subwoofer would be pretty cool too.

Order components? I'd think you'd be able to find a sponsor for that car. I know Kicker is located in Stillwater, OK and they do a lot of this type stuff (plus it'd be close to me and give me a chance to see the car up closers and.....................DRIVE IT!?!?!?!?)

Hi 1320,

Finding sponsors is tougher than you might suspect. The people following the build on the forums have a good feel for who we are, but calling up someone you don't know and asking them for a freebee is difficult at best. How do they know that I will even finish the car (it has already taken me a bit longer than expected). Also, even though the car looks good on the net, it may look like a total basket case in person.

Anyway, if you want to start a grass root movment to find sponsors.....

This piece of automobile art will see the road, and there are plenty of people on here that would more than likely agree with me. Also with as much work that you guys are putting into this, the likelyhood that it will look like a "basketcase" in person is nill.

So no more negative thoughts. Positive thoughts.

Hi All,

We are having difficulty finding a sponsor who will display the SN65 at SEMA. What I need is a grass roots movement. It is one thing for us to ask if they will show the car, it is another for random people to ask if the car will be on display.

So.....

Your mission (if you chose to accept it) is to write a short little e-mail stating something something like... I have been following the build on blah blah blah... and I heard you were sponsering the SN65 blah, blah blah... and i was wondering if the car was going to be at your booth at SEMA blah blah blah....

Ford performance
Magna Flow
Centerforce
PPG
Hot Rod Mag
American Racing Wheels
Etc...

I wouldn't ask this of you, but Wayne really had his heart set on the car being at SEMA. Thanks in advance. I will let you know if this helps (or hurts) our cause.

Hey... I don't have any negative thoughts. I am just saying that it is hard convincing people to give stuff to someone they never heard of for a car that may never be finished....

Don't worry. The car will be finished. It is just that so many of these things end up in limbo that many of the sponsors are gun shy. They don't want to give any materials to people they don't know for projects that never get finished.

I will not be denied. I will keep picking and picking and pokeing until they fold.

Ford performance should.. they are into that stuff like SEMA is ya kno? check it out.. my pops knows a good bit of people up the chain in FRPP ladder so.. ya lol

Kicker has been emailed, for whatever good it will do as I have no pull, just some email addresses.

I also emailed John Vermeersch at Total Performance/Ford Racing as well.

Good Morning Bob,

I've been following the build of your car for a long time now. I was shocked to say the least when i pull up to Comp Fab and saw the car in there having work done. I have the twin turbo truck that is being built is his shop. Dave is doing a bunch of fab work for me.

As far as sponsors goes, it really comes down to selling your self and getting to know the right people. I've been pretty lucky and met some great guy's along the way. I trully think the having a professional rendering done of my truck helped me the most as vendors can actually see what i am attempting to build. I haven't asked many people for full sponsorship, mostly jobber or some sort of discount. You would be amazed at how many vendors actually want to give you something so they can tell people that they helped you.

One of the things that you can sell to potential vendors is the fact that you've had "X" numbers of hits on all of these different forums.

One of the things that may hurt you with vendors is the fact that you are not doing many upgrades to the engine. So you need to look at vendors that will want there product on or inside your car. (( ex. Wheels & tires, Sound System, Seat and guages )) I am certain that any or shall i say any wheel manufacture you call will give you a set of one-off custom wheels for your car. Heck most of them work with the tire manufactures and he will even hook you up with tires.

I may stop buy your shop one day to check out the finished product . I am really interested to see how your dash turns out.

So, when you saw the SN65 over at CF, did it meet your expectaions???

OBTW, that truck of yours is just insaine. I looked it over for about 30 minutes or so. You should be very proud, it looks top notch all the way round, although I would have taken it to another shop for the paint. I heard that this place called Julians collision Center does acceptable work.

Thanks for the help. It would be great if FRPP comes on board in that I really could use some new 03 Cobra rims and rubber.

I would have to say it met / exceeded my expectations. It's an awesome idea and i am all for updating car so they are just a little safer or shall i say different. My next project is going to be a fastback mustang or a cuda.

So you know a painter - Just Kidding. Dave is hoping to have most of the work completed on the truck by X-Mas and then it's off to detroit to get Acid Dipped and "E" coated. Can't wait to see that bill.

I would love to stop by and talk to you about painting the truck. I'll be at Dave's tommorow night to see the progress and feed him more idea's. How late are you at your shop?

ps - it's finally back on the ground, just waiting for my new 14" brakes so we can make it a roller again

Hi All,

Well, I am back from the wilds of northwestern Wisconsin. I am all rested and ready to make one final push to get SN65 roadworthy. Wayne, on the other hand, spent the holiday working. What was he working on you ask? Well, sanding and priming and sanding and priming of course. He is now concentrating his efforts on fitting up the front drivers side fender. I could go into a lot of detail as to what he did and how he did it. but I will let the photos speak for themselves.

I don't know about you, but I really like the way Wayne created the flares / extractor vent detail in the front fender. The finished panel is gorgeous. Wayne did an incredible job on the rear flare detail, and needless to say, the front flares are more of the same. When Wayne came in this morning, he found me just standing in the shop staring at the drivers side of the car. I was walking back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. I can really start to picture the finished results and (even though I can be a critical SOB on occasion) the quality of fabrication and the way all the design elements work together far exceed the picture I had painted with my minds eye.

Here are a couple of "fans" that stopped by the shop. They wanted a brief look and Wayne spent about half an hour answering their questions. I am sure that they would still be talking about the car if a paying customer hadn't shown up.

What have I been doing you ask? Well.... as I said earlier, I spent the holiday in the backwoods of northwestern Wisconsin. A few days relaxing about the house, going out on the boat and pounding down a few drinks (happy hour is at 5PM) have got me ready to rock. I am going to finish the last few plumbing details and fire this sucker up. After that, it is all going to be a downhill rush to completion. I will post some photos of the plumbing configuration this week. I am very happy with the way the final configuration cam out.
