You should look into one of those places that can take all of those pictures and make it into a photo mosaic of your finished car. That would be slick.

Hi 68,

Starting the car of course.

Wired in series they give 12 volts and more cranking amps. But, the main reason for going 6 volt is the small size. They can be mounted in a number of different locations and at any angle (even upside down).

I thought that was probably it. I also thought that maybe you were going for the "factory" 03 look and keeping the battery in the stock location. If that was the case I was wondering what you needed 6V for.

Hi 68,

Well, I was going for the 03 factory look, but when we relocated the shock towers forward 7", we lost the factory battery location, and there is nowhere else in the engine bay for a battery. Also, I was thinking of mounting the factory battery in the trunk, but that would have eaten up all the trunk space available of an already small trunk.

Hi All,

I am getting ready to turn the key for the first time. I am currently reviewing all the electrical connections. Anyone out there have any recommendations as to possible electrical issues I should be on the watch for. I am currently looking at all the grounds. any other issues you are aware of would be very helpful.

With it sitting for as long as it has, have you primed the oil system?

Hi All,

Well I just temporarily connected the battery and the instrument cluster started buzzing. All the instrument cluster lights came on, but there was this weird buzzing noise. When you turn the key, you get nothing.

I am going to continue reviewing the connections and finishing up some wiring details, but, from what I understand, it should operate fine the way that it is currently wired.

I will be priming the systems and checking all the fluid levels after I get the electrical worked out.

Along the same lines as Edbert: Keep your nose open for that electrical burning smell. It is hard to describe but immediately recognizable.

Man I can't wait for the finished product...but then again, building it is the fun part. Dunno bout yal, but all these updates and pics makes me feel 'involved'. Being in college, 200 miles away from my car, I feed on anything mechanical I can find.

With that 50 millionth compliment said, I have a question about the extractor vent. Will it be just as is, or will it be 'plumbed' to the engine compartment? What will its primary purpose be?

Hi All,

No burning smells, but the gage cluster does buzz and the gages all go to max.

Someone asked if the buzzing was a "I've been disconnected for so long I need some kind of code" type of buzz. I have never heard this one before, but I thought I might throw it out and get some feedback from those in the know on the forum.

Hi SS,

The extractors are going to be just as is. No ductwork involved.

The extractors are more cosmetic than functional. We were going to continue the flare all the way to the fender at the back, but changed our mind when the flare became about 5" long. It just looked bad. By creating the "extractor" we have kept the flare consistant throughout the entire car. Yes it will help vent some of the air trapped in the fender wells, but overall, it was a cosmetic decision.

Hi All,

Well... After reviewing all the wiring over and over and over and over again, I finally resolved the "buzzing" dash issue. It appears to have been a sticking "turn signal relay". It looks like I will have to replace that item. If it still buzzes with the new relay, I will have to re-work the grounds for that part of the wiring.

With that said, if all goes well today, we will be lighting this cracker this afternoon. I have all the fluids on order. I want to get the initial firing on tape for posterity. I better check the film in my good old Kodak super 8 movie camera. Does film have a shelf life? Oh, what the hell, I am sure that the film is still good. After all, it is only about 22 years old.

Hi All,

She's ALIVE!!!

After checking all the fluids and adding some premium petrol, inserting the key, depressing the clutch and turning the key, the engine turned over for about 10 seconds, sputtered a bit and then fired up. We only let it run for about 10 seconds before shutting it down. I still needed to complete the intercooler plumbing so we did not want to run it for long.

I will be posting a video of the whole affair once I figure out how to edit these movie clips down to something smaller that 30 meg.

I have been pretty busy completing the intercooler plumbing and bleeding the air out of the cooling system. I will be posting an update with photos, etc as soon as I can pull myself away from all these fun filled details.
