Looks like you only have 1-1/2"-2" clearance. Is that something hanging below the K-member?

Hi 1320,

The photo is a bit decieving. It was taken at a very low angle. You really have to bend over quite a bit before you see much of the core suppot at all (if any). Here is a photo looking straight into the grill. This is what you would see if you were squatting down about 20 feet in front of the car.

Once the valance is painted Yellow, you will not even notice the core support, even if you were low enough to see it. Although, God save you if this is what you see when the car is doing about 160.

Also, we have about 3.5" of clearance below the K-member.

There is nothing hanging below the K-member. It is probably a bit of snad paper on the ground behind the car.

Well, and you may already know this having owned a classic Mustang, I had my '65 coupe out on a two lane blacktop country road here in Oklahoma running about 125 mph when I caught a gust of wind on the driver's side and it pushed me over a bit. I went to correct and nothing happened and I got out of it quick. The grille opening and wedge shapped lower valance seem to cause quite an amount of lift. I don't know if it has a lot to do with the stock susupension. I made another run at it and was able to move the wheel about 45 degrees either direction with no movement of the car and my manual steering box is pretty tight.

Since we seemed to vote on everything else can we vote on chin spoiler or not? hehe. If so I vote for one! It will give it a truely aggressive look to match its stance and flares. Just my opinion. Nice work BTW if I havn't said it enough. You and Wayne never seem to stop amazing me.

Well, if you were to put one on there, I wouldn't want it to hang too low, but Bob's right, with the valance painted, the core support should "go away".

Hey Bob, if your going to "toss" the spare passenger fender behind the car in that last shot, you can ship it to me and I'll dispose of it for you properly.

Hi TN,

I was actually afraid of this also, but as the tires go up over the speed bump, the K-member goes up and over with them. If you go over the speed bump square, the k-member should not hit. Now the rest of the car is a differnt story.

Bob,
Did you ever hook up with anyone that wanted to display the car at SEMA? I have been reading some articles about various Mustang projects that are going to be displayed there, and in my opinion the SN65 seems to be the most interesting build of them all. Hope something comes through for you guys!

Did you guys use stock springs or lowering springs? Using the stock suspension components, I would think the car's undercarriage should have about the same amount of ground clearance as a factory '03 Cobra.

Hi B65,

Sorry, but we have no takers right now. It looks as if the only way we are going to make it to SEMA is if we drive the car there ourselves and tailgate in the parking lot.

Hi E,

We used all Maximum Motorsport components in the car. The front K-member is a graft of the original Cobra piece and the MM tubular item. We have used the 1" lower than stock mounting points for the front "A" arms. All 4 "A" arms (front and back) will be riding just about horizontal (just about a 1/4" downward rake from the inboard mounting point to the ball joints).

This is about as low as you can go without running into suspension geometry problems. We should end up with about 3.5 inches of clearance to the K-member when all is said and done.

Only a guess of course but the 65 body probably weights a little less than the 03, so it might actually ride slightly higher than a stock 03 with same suspension mods would.

That said, I lowered my 97 Cobra by 1.5 front and 1 rear and had hell around some parking lots. Never scraped the K-member but the exhaust was taking a beating as was the front valence. YMMV, and I hope it will.

Isnt' ChepSk8 a user in here, I think he may have some clout with the mags and in turn could get some more publicity on the car, at least to the vendors, you'd think just the vendors you are using would be setting a due date for you instead of you setting it yourself.

Hello Bob, dunno if you remember me. I did some knock-ups of the flares for you a long time ago.

I've periodically been checking the updates but I missed the last few ones. I just saw them today and I gotta say its looking better than I ever thought it would.

So agressive and I love how the flares turned out especially the front ones. Hands down this is gonna be the best modular restomod on earth.

I just listened to the firing up video, wow, that interior looks so surreal in a 65 fastback. I thought I was looking at an 03 cobra for a second

Awesome job to you and your brother, can't wait to see a final vid.

Hi All,

This weekend went pretty well.

I finished modifying and painting the hood latching hardware.

I also preliminarily fit up the rear interior panels. What a pain in the butt. I know that these panels were fit by hand on an assembly line, but gezzz, nothing lines up right. After assembling, disassembling, trimming, relocating tabs and re-drilling mounting holes, I finally ended up with a nice consistent fit. Now I just have to construct the structure for the floor and Wayne can paint the panels. We have to wait on painting these panels until after the floor structure is finished. We don't want to be scratching the newly painted surfaces now do we.

If you look at all the other photos on the site, you can get a real good feel for how the finished interior will look. I think that the blend of 65 and 03 works very well.

Hi Edbert,

Gezzz... As I remember it, it was only about 3500 pages back.

No rear seat for this car, although, I could have made that work if I did not add the rear "X" bracing. I am going to panel it out, but a bit differently that it has been done before.

Will the rear suround alterations look good, or will they be a dismal failure? When complete, will the car weigh in at more or less than the original predictions? Yes it does start, but will it ever actually move under it's own power? After blowing deadline after deadline, will Bob finally pull this thing together just in time to save his job?
