Hi T,

I plan on driving the car into some of the larger Ford dealers service departments and asking for an oil change.

I want to see their expresion when they put it up on the rack.

Been following the project as much as I can. It's pretty amazing. Friends of mine think I am crazy for going through the trouble of putting a late model 5.0 into my 68. It's a walk in the park compared to what you guys are doing. Anyway could you email or post a larger scan of your article? I would be interested in reading it.

Hi Burn,

Yes the tires are on backwards. Good eyes.

They are just on for fit up, not for driving.

Well, I didn't notice that, but I did notice that the cardboard and tape aren't a very good brace.

Good point. I never really gave that much thought

That being the case, here is the "ASTM A-36 COLD ROLLED STEEL" piller reinforcement installed on the passenger side.

Best freakin Stang thread ever!!!!

This thing should be a sticky...or it's own section.

My thought on the wheels...18" Boyd smoothies...they're modern (ie new)...they're trick...they're classic....kind of like "old school on steriods".

OH man...this project is a dream. One day I'm doing that to a '67 (please note...I'll be hiring the work out...cause I could never accomplish what you're doing). And then the 4V motor is getting a polished KB and chromed cam covers...and I'll got mental and put like a 4:56 in the ass.

This totally rocks

How about 17" or 18" custom wheels that are machined to look like Styled Steel Wheels?

You are absolutly right. 17" custom SSW's would really rock. If you would like to drop Chip Foose a line and see if he would donate a set to the project I would greatly apprechiate it.

I wonder if people of his caliber would be interested in helping out with such a small scale project. After all, he has the TV shows and his own show cars to wory about.

Ya know, I was thinking the same thing when someone mentioned the 18" Mag500's. Has anyone seen a set of 17" alum. "Steel Styled Wheels". And I don't think it would hurt to drop some of the custom wheel designers a line just to try, what would it hurt. In my opinion it would be great advertising for the designer when the car gets published in HotRod.

IMO...this is THE BEST STANG THREAD EVER!!!!!

Here's why I think this way,

What you are doing with that car emulates what many of us try to tweak on our modern rides...the "classic" cues with modern grunt.

Some of us don't have the balls or the where-with-all to make it happen the way you are.

Not worthy.

And when the lottery gods are simling on me...we will be having a face to face chat...I'll be bringing my check-book.

Hey sn65 what are you doing about interior? maybe the factory 03 cobra with a touch of 65? that'd be cool like the seats of 03.. dash of 65.. now that'd be big time cool there..

hes going for "stock looking" but I think it would be cool to slap the mach 1 interior into that thing, or maybe the 05 including dash and all.

Hi One,

I am going for "stock" or "Semi Stock" look from the outside (the wheel flairs will be a tellbut not much else). The inside will be a different story.

I am using the Cobra dash, center console, carpet and seats. The doors, rear surround and package tray will be 65.

I will be mounting the subs and amps under the rear package tray (where the fold down rear seats used to be). I am thinking of mounting the mids in the lower corner of the doors and the tweeters in the front window pillars. More speakers will be hidden in the back.

There will be a 4 point roll bar and 4 point seat belts.

The rear window will be a plexiglass Shelby "R" type "tinted" to simulate tinted glass (a Julian's Collision Center exclusive) and we will be installing a "third eye" in the gap at the top.

We are going to utilize the 03 fuel inlet system, although we are going to pick up a nice billet door (should go nice with the aluminum paint).

Hi Nem,

First off, I hope you all had a good thanksgiving. With that said....

I am shooting to be complete in Jan. I have been working on and off (stupid job keeps getting in the way) since late May... early June...

For todays photos I have the following...

The car is currently set, on the frame rack, at ride height. If you remove the support from any one of the corners, the car does not show any sign of sag or deflection. I have attached two photos illustrating this point.

If chassis stiffness greatly improves driveability, this should be one fine ride.

I have also finished the interior torque box reinforcements.

First I welded in four 10 gage strips to fill the recesses where the torque box is spot welded to the floor pans. I located the plug weld holes over the existing spot weld locations so that I would get a good bond to the actual torque box. I then welded two 10 gage plates (approx 12" square) over the top of these. These plates help reinforce the entire area and also gave me a good base for welding the cross brace.

I designed a brace that would tie the torque boxes to each other, the tunnel and the main structural cross brace. After I remove the IRS, I will finish by welding some additional reinforcements to the bottom. There is a possibility that we will be upping the HP a bit, and we really do not want any weakness in this area of the car.

I will post some more shots later.
