Damn...........I haven't been around much. This is an interesting project. Did I see somewhere earlier in the thread that you are in the northwest chicago burbs?........I am too and would love to visit and share some of the things that I am doing on my project.

Thats lookin really good. :)

How many people are workin on the project?

Was the '03 a totaled car?
Thanks 67,

We have about 5 on and off. Mostly my brother Wayne and myself right now. We will have more hands available to help when we start assembly.

The 03 was slightly used (about 5K on the odometer).

Any idea of how many hours have been spent on the project?

Well... we have about 6 who will work on dif phases. Right now 4 are working on bodywork, but mostly my brother Wayne and myself.

As far as manhours, I guess we should have been keeping track. More than 10, less than 10,000....

Hi All,

Well here we are as of this morning.

We have all the bracing and panels fit up for the front end. I lost a lot of time with the original bracing in that it would not clear the front wheel (when the wheel was turned all the way inboard and the suspension was compressed 100%). I will be putting the measuring system on the car and start welding up the entire fronnt structure today. I should have all that done by tomarrow.

We configured the rear wheel housings. They are the original 03 outer housings. We trimmed and formed them to mate up to the 65 quarters. It would have been much easyer to tub the rear, but that would not have maintained the "factory" look we are going for.

You will also note that I have possitioned the 65 windshield wiper mounting points on the cowl. I still have to decide on the location of the motor and linkage. I guess I will figure that out once I remove the 65 dash and possition the 03 dash and can check for clearance.

Always looking forward to these updates. You know, I remember someone posted on this site a long time ago about a guy in Australia that had put an sn95 dash/int into a 65-66 fb. He posted on here for a little while, and I can't remember his name. I remember there was a good bit of trimming. I think he ended up shortening most of the passenger side. I wish I could find his site. I'm almost positive it was right hand drive too, but I don't know if he ever finished the job. Maybe someone else remembers?

Wow the 03 dash is goin in there too, This is gonna be even cooler than I thought :)

Is the whole '03 interior goign to be used or are you going to somehow mix old with new?
Hi 67,

We are going to use the 03 dash, center console and seats. The rest will be all 65.

We are going to eliminate the rear seats and install the 65 Shelby FRP package tray and the plexiglass "R" model rear window. Under the package tray we will install the amps and maybe the subs for the stereo (these still may end up in the trunk if the audio experts recommend it). Also, we are going to attempt to install the (3rd eye) brake light in the air gap at the top of the "R" model window.

Catch you later.

I remember that car but can't remember who was doing it. He also fabricated a polished stainless gas tank and a wicked EFI intake from scratch. The car was right hand drive but the dash he was using was out of another Australian Ford not a Mustang. About that same time there was somebody else that talked about trimming a SN95 dash to fit I think a 66 fastback. I think the Aussie was building a convertible.

Ok, Marshall sounds familiar. I do vividly remember one picture was of a fastback with no glass on it, and it was shot through the back window looking in. Maybe he's got more than one project, who knows. And I'd love to see the pics oboe.

Sorry to take away from your thread Bob. You might be interested in these pics, just to give you a visual of what you're looking at.

I wouldn't mind seeing those pics Oboe. I'm loving this project too, I can't wait to see the finished product.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm glad your brother is ok. I hate people on their mobiles whilst driving. It's 3 points and a $3000 fine if you get caught doing it here. Something like that anyway, it's pretty harsh, but I still see people doing it.

MAN! I feel like such a loser for just now finding this thred!

I'm on board the vicarious wagon now.

If this project doesn't get a full follow up article in Hot Rod mag, I'm canceling my subsribtion!
Not that I need one, I've been reading this for the last 20 mins, but just because you deserve the recognition.

Are you out there Hot Rod? are you listening?

Progress, progress, progress....

The push is on. Enough with the fitting and figuring and calculating and planning and fiddle *^&@$*& around. Damn the torpedoes, weld, weld, weld.

We installed the measuring system to check the dims one last time before we started welding. It was a good thing too. I had tacked the drivers side shock tower in the wrong location. :-( I was actually 8mm off (shifted to far back). I am not quite sure what this would have done to the alignment, but it could not have helped much. So... after grinding off a dozen tacks and repositioning the shock tower, I am please to report that we are now within 1 or 2mm everywhere.

Woo Hoo

I have finished welding in the tower braces and the body to firewall cowl side pieces. I have some touch up to finish (I located some spot weld holes on the trim pieces that ended up in mid air. Opps... but it is nothing that a little welding can't fix).

After I finish the touch up welding and grinding (lots and lots of grinding). I will reinstall the measuring system. Check all the dims one more time and finish welding up the frame rails.

Let the good times roll.
