So there is a guy that i work with, who happens to own a IS350, and basically he wants to run some time to see what his car would do against mine.. his car is stock for now but he is planning on doing an exhaust and intake. We are actually going to wait until the spring to take it to the track and see what they can do?? so saying i through some gears, and finish my exhaust.. i have a feeling this shouldnt be all that close or am i underestimating him??

You are probably underestimating him as those cars are rated at 306hp.

they are no joke now, Lexus finally started making cars that arn't just a toyota w/ a diffent body. For a japenese luxery car they aint bad at all, it's boasting 306 hp (at a relitively high rpm of 6400) and 277tq at about 4800. The car isnt quite as heavy as it looks at 3527lbs and is said to go 0-60 in 5.61secs. My neighbor has one of which my dad's Audi A6 w/ exhaust, s/s, springs, intake, and perforamce chip puts it on him - but it;d be a good race againt my car. My money is on a good race after gears if u can drive.

All i can say is that you have no room for errors because in the lex you just have to step on the gas and assuming you have a 5 spd then your in for a good one. good luck though, hope you can drive.

My mom has one . It's a quick little car. I'm sure it's faster than mine.

I've been trying to get her to bring it to the strip up here in Baton Rouge, to race me. Also been trying to get her to come to autocross. She seems interested, but hasn't come yet. If I succeed any time soon, I'll let you know how bad she whoops me. I've driven it plenty on the streets and highway though, and it's very impressive.

The peak power is at high RPM, but that doesn't mean it's sluggish. It pulls very smoothly at all RPM when you get on it, and rev's through em like a mofo. Not bad for a rice burner.

The paddle-shift auto is trash though, but aren't they all? It works just fine if you leave it in D, but put it in shiftin mode and you better be careful. Shifts take like a second and a half (probably not that long, but it sure feels long). I suppose it's fun for people who's other car isn't a manual. She doesn't use it though.

In short, yes, I think you are vastly underestimating him.

Just out of curiosity, what wheels does he have on his? Stock ones? My mom picked out some killer rims from Lexus, and they really make the car. I notice IS350's every now and then on the street, but probably not as many as I actually come across. They just don't turn heads. But hers is ****in hot. The wheels transform the car completely. The only reason I ask is because I have never see these optional wheels on any others, and it's kind of disappointing.

Wow, what a rant. Maybe I'll post some pics of it to back it up.

Well Ill chime in- as I am a die hard Mustang guy.....who happens to own an IS350

(sorry I would have bought Ford but I need 4 doors for my job- and after driving the Fusion, 500 exc- I liked this better)

Dont let him get the intake and exhaust before racing him-

There are guys running 13.2s and 13.3s with intake and exhaust on the Lexus boards @105MPH- (fastest has been 13.14 I believe)

Stock, guys are running 13.5s - one guy did dip into the 13.40s-

They are quick out of the hole, but loose power up top-

They come with factory 4.10 gears, 6 speed auto- so thats why they get out quick-

I think it was road and track just got 4.9 0-60/ 13.5 1/4 mile @105 stock-

I have taken out a few modded 05+ GTs with mine- I have no ideas what mods were on the GTs- but they had at least exhaust-

I have intake/ exhaust on mine-

Just wanted to let you know

The specs Lexus puts out on the IS350 are 0-60 in 5.3 and 1/4 mile in 14.2 with a top speed of 142. I can believe it's about a half second quicker int he quarter mile. Like I said, I'll let you guys know when I get my mom's up here .

How would a stang with gears and full bolt-ons do though? i think our gears are the biggest weakness on the car

Go to car and driver, they did the drag test. I'm sure a reputable Magazine like Car and Driver has nothing to lie about.

look, i know your taking it personally cuz u own one - but Edmunds has it at 5.61, Car and Driver has it at 5.1 (stated w/ optimal conditions), Motor Trend says 5.4, and Automobile mag. says mid 5 second range

The lexus needs to be falling off a cliff to get into the 4 second times, that's Cobra territory

I actually looked at the car for the first time yesterday and its a sharp looking car, and its got the stock rims, but i have another intresting question i have been seeing the HP ratings is around 300 ish, he is dead set that this car has only 260?? did they make one with only that amount of HP

Car and Driver just retested the car and pulled a 4.9-

Whatever it is- its fast to 60- and then falls on its face-

All of those magazines you listed also have the IS350 running in the mid 14 second range as well- (listed as 14.3 by Lexus)

and the IS350s at the track are running much quicker-

I have raced my own IS350 against my 66 fast back- (with my old man driving the IS350)

I could only out launch the IS350 about 2 out of 5 times- and the IS350 would put up quite a fight to about 60- and the 3 out of 5 times I would not catch the IS350 until about 50-60 MPH-

and my 66 is easily as quick as a stock terminator-

the 66 has a 351 430hp crate motor, 5 speed, 9 inch with 4.11 posi, and suspension mods to back it up-

I think the problem is the Is350 gets a lot quicker after breaking it in- which would explain why the 1/4 miles times people are getting are much faster the the mag times which all except Car and Driver have the car in the low-mid 14s-

Im not trying to be defensive, as I will openly admit the IS350 falls on its face after 60-70MPH- and personally I would rather own a Stang as my daily driver if work did not require me to drive a 4 door car-

slower or not- lookswise- Stang>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>IS350- IMHO

( I also want to mention, I have owned several 11 and 12 second Stangs in the past- so I can drive- and have driven several Terminators, and have a feeling for how quick they are)

im sorry.. but car and driver magazie absolutely sucks. much of their info on the new gt500 was wrong, and thats all i ever cared about which was in that magazine. id hate to read the rest of it. btw, they rated the gt500 at a 12.9 quarter mile and an 05gt at 13.7 (close, but not totally accuate). dosent something look wrong there.

Not that I disagree, because I've always hated C&D, but...

The only drivers out of the magazine crowd that could get the IS350 to 60 in under 5 seconds... they suck?

Or I guess they're just lying.

I don't think it's possible for a magazine to get a "totally accurate" time on a car. I mean, try to define what "totally accurate" means, and then try to figure out how they would manage that.

"Damn you guys for not having the most perfectly averagely built car off the assembly line, and most average driver in the world!"

The times you are citing are regarded as slow (I'm assuming? Though 13.7 sounds like a pretty average time for a new GT) for the cars. But then they run the IS350 faster than others, so the whole "they suck" argument kinda turns around there.

They must be lying to make up for their other ****ups.
