The SVO Lowdown...

Oops, I forgot one, here is the best pic I could get of the under drives from Ford...

Hmmmm....seeing that makes me question the authenticity of the package. Your "SVO" intake is actually a Cobra piece and not the "GT-40" intake that was said to come in the package. I'm also seeing Stage-8 locking header bolts, which weren't around when this package came out. Something tells me that these were bolt on's added after the fact to a stock 5.0L GT?

I suppose it is certainly possible. However the article I sighted and the PDFs I have clearly state that it is an "SVO GT-40" package that can be added to a GT or a Cobra. I also hear you on the stge 8 locking header bolts.

There are a couple of possibilites that come to mind:
1. My car could be an actual SVO car with some unexplainable issues (bolts) that have been added over the past 18 years.

2. My car could be someone's attempt to copy the SVO package.

The things that most excite me are the following:
1. The Mustang GT SVO GT-40 package is not a myth (the documentation and article prove it).

2. My car has some quality mods on it that are all Ford parts.

What sayist you?

I sayist you should take a run down to your local dealer and confirm your suspicions for sure. You should have no issue find a record of specifics of the car and what factory packages were added to it based on the VIN#.

IMO, this is the only real way to tell for sure.

But yes...your car does have some quality components regardless.

Yes, a dealer seems to be a good idea. I wonder if just tracing the vin will work? As far as me finding out for sure, I'm not going crazy about it. When I pull the thing apart to replace the lifters in a few weeks i'll check the heads out for sure. If they are y303s then i'll be pretty certain that its an SVO package. If they are not then I won't be upset. They are still quality upgrades.

I'm just happy that I at least saw proof of "Bigfoot". I don't have to own one. If I do -great. If I don't -its still great. The research doesn't have to match my car. I just enjoyed the research -that's what I do in life. Know what I mean? Anyhow, thanks for all your feedback Gearbanger!

Wow! I'm so excited I found this thread. I gave up on my searhas months agoo! Ok here we go.

A year ago I purchased a 1995 mustang GT "SVO GT-40" from the 3rd owner bought it from a "rich kid" who was the second owner that bought it from the first owner (a lady). 3rd owner bought to convert to saleen but found another car and this sat for a year untouched. Then I bought it.

They story of the car was said to be sold and the concourse De elegance car show as a promo for the gt40 package. Built by svo it has (faded now) svo gt40 sticker across the windshield a gt40 badge on the trunk lid opposite the emblem.

All parts checked out for the gt40 package including 3.73 gears headers, aluminum heads gt40 manifold etc.

The kid said he bought it from the rich lady down the street and she bought it for "60,000 dollars" from the show. Rated at "340hp". Said to have a cam and injectors. This has not been verified yet.

Kid said he had pictures of it at the show and the Window sticker and would send it to me. Then he said he wanted to buy the car from me. I kindly declined and he never returned my calls.

Attempts with ford and dealerships led me nowhere except that the car was shown sold from a dealership 75 miles east of where the concourse is held.

I gave up and just said either I have a good attempted gt40 package replica, an original dealer installed for customer gt40 package, or a true one if a kind promo svo gt40.

By the way it even has matching novelty

Sorry posting from phone paragraphs got mixed up.

Has matching novelty license plates also.

I was content with accepting that I have a cool car with cool parts in great stock condition and not trashed at all. I'm happy.

Everything I read online from people was claiming it's a hoax and impossible.

I used the smog ca cert to pass smog with it and it worked fine. So that's some proof. I stayed away from those forums.

Then I found you! I'm so excited to know I'm not the only one and that the "story" might be true about this car.

Anyways. That's what I have to say.

I added the msd and camber plates. Everything else is how it came. They strut tower brace is part of the gt40 lit to clear the night manifold.

The strut tower brace is part of the gt40 kit to clear the big manifold *** sorry for typos. Stupid autocorrect lol
Hello Superstang11,

I'm glad that this thread was helpful to you. I have additional information about the SVO GT40 dealer option if you are interested. My engine looks very similar to yours. Yes, these cars came with different strut tower braces to clear the intake manifold. They also came with GT40 heads, Motorsport shorty headers, 1.72 Crane roller rockers, under drive pulleys, 65mm TB, and 355 or 373 gears in stage 1 configuration. Stage 1 configuration gave the vehicle 290HP from the dealer for an additional $2999.

Stage 2, at the cost of another $1999, offered a super charger to stage 1. I am not sure of the HP increase for Stage 2.

The injectors & cam of the vehicle (whether GT or Cobra) were not part of the package. It looks like you are benefitting from additional upgrades.

If you are interested in talking let me know. I'll post pics of my engine compartment soon. I just restored the car.

Working on restoring car currently. Thanks side tracked by a boat project.

The car wouldn't idle when I got it or pass smog. I went through everything with a full tune up and msd. Idles fine but a bit rough. Nothing that makes it feel like it will die but it's a bit rough.

I just finished up the front suspension with a few complimentary pieces to the koni struts and eibach. It's ready for alignment and some enjoying.

I had a hard time finding a smog place to accept the carb eo number for the gt40 package. They all didn't know what it was. I finally found a place that looked it up online and found it. He slogged the car and it passed no problem within the limits.

The car his flow masters and mac catted h pipe. These pieces looked like they were installed by amateurs. Besides that everything else looked pretty legit.

The stickers on the car and license plate matching interest me in trying to find out the true history of this car.

Anyone know where I can get the original Window sticker? I tried ford and online but no luck. Thanks.

Message me if you wanna exchange contacts and see what more we can find out.

Yes, let's talk. I have the executive order for CA to smog the SVO GT40 car. It was signed in 1996. As far as a window sticker goes; the SVO GT40 option was via select dealers, not the factory. Thus, I am unsure if the window sticker will reflect any difference. I'm not sure how to message you, but here is my email: joetrainer31. I am at yahoo.

Nice pics. My car was pretty much stock nothing was touched besides the exhaust it looked like. Car just sat for awhile. Plus they changed the radio at one point which I upgraded to a new pioneer flip out with camera and all the other goodies.

The reason I'm looking for the window sticker is that I want to know if the 'story" that is wrote above is true and that this was the promotional vehicle for the gt40 package. The storybook that the car was purchased as is and built by svo to promote the package and what you can do to your GT. The car has badges and a matching license plate that was original with the car SVOGT40.

I know I have the gt40 package that's a given. I'd like to know if the car was really the promo vehicle.

My car came with the California carb eo number pdf and hard copy which I used to legally pass smog with it as is.

Anybody know where to go to find out what the car was originally sold for and what it had on it? Thanks guys.

Superstang, the dealer optioned Mustangs with the GT-40 package (stage 1) were sold for an additional $2999 above the regular price. You can just look up the original price of your car and add the $2999 to it in order to satisfy curiosity.

As far as a window sticker; I have no idea how to get one of those or if they reflect the upgrade since it was a dealer, not a factory option. Also, I'm sorry that I cannot help you in regards to your car being a prototype or model of that option -I wish I could.

Lastly, I could provide you with the article & CA executive order for the SVO GT-40 package if you are interested. I'm interested in seeing your badges out of curiosity. Thanks!

I'm totally waking the dead here, but I was doing some research on the specifics of the package, and I recalled this issue of Car and Driver where they tested the SVO package against the z28 of the day. I used to have this magazine in a sleeve, from when I was in Jr High.

Anyway - it has all the specs of the car + was a white GT that might be of interest to someone in the future.
