There are really no GOOD cars left today...

I'm looking around Ford, GM (Pontiac, Chevy, etc.), and Chrysler (Dodge, etc) and what I see is extremely disappointing....

On Ford's site, the RWD v8 that's even worth mentioning are well.. you guessed it.. Mustangs... On GM's, they REALY have almost NO good cars, the GTO reminds me of a grand prix not to mention the C6 isn't ideally affordable as its almost 85k in canada. Dodge, isn't that bad, MOPAR rules obviously but **** why would I want a hemi powered station wagon? [altho i do like the magnum]....

So, to put it bluntly.. the Mustang is really the only thing that's even remotely affordable and still has some power. I know Dodge has the new charger coming out (but **** its a 4 dr!!!, isn't that what the new 300C's are?)

Dissappointing.

And to continue bitching my disappointment... At least for the next 5 years, the Mustang is going to own the **** out of anything GM or Chrysler, Dodge and whatever other guys can come up with..

You have your uber cars, Corvette, Viper, Ford GT which I consider out of the range of most ordinary people.. and then you have mustang market.. Is there really anything that beats a mustang dollar for dollar? NO. Trans Am / Firebird died, Camaro died too (and the new one looks queer) and oh well its gone down the ****ter i think.

I do'nt think many people realize this.. but Mustang really has won the pony wars.

I need some therapy.

AMEN BROTHER! I love the sound of Trans Ams n tha new Magnum n all but that's it, i'd never be able to afford a trans am, as far as modding it goes, yea throw that idea out the window, And I wouldn't want a magnum. Nothing beats a mustang! Camaros ,in my opinon, are ugly, and don't even get me started complaining about the new GTO (yes, it looks too much like a grand prix!) and that about does it for the muscle cars. I don't even like the 05 mustang thou. idk i think Ford, chevy, and dodge, need to gear the cars towards my generation. This may be slightly off topic but, i'd heard a while back in car and driver (i think) about the dodge razor, is it gonna b made? That seemed geared more toward racin n performance plus it waz suppozed ta b cheap.

At least they're taking a step in the right direction... back in 1999ish area... there was NO Magnum, 300C, GT, C6 (or even Z06), GTO, Charger Concept, SRT-4... and im sure theres a bunch I missed. The companies are starting to get back into the swing of things and realized that a 200hp V6 will get 25mpg, and a 400hp V8 will get 22mpg... so they might as well build some nice engines. Also it seems the trend is going back to RWD... which just plain kicks ass. All in all, there arent really any affordable muscle cars other than the Mustang right now... but give her time, she'll come around.

c6's are BADASS, plain and simple(400 hp for 40k), the mustang, tho, has truly won the pony wars.

I disagree...I think cars today are just as good from a nostalgic point of view and are not steps but "elevators" above previous models from a technology standpoint and overall creature comfort...just tastes change in the market and somepeople don't like it...

Hang in there guys - all it will take is a couple of Democratic administrations (if not this election then the next one) and you'll see 1) ever tougher emissions standards, 2) even tougher gas mileage standards, 3) higher taxes on gasoline, 4) more requirements for hybrids/electrics/alcohol/nat. gas powered vehicles. Add a global economic/energy situation where oil prices continue to rise (they will). When all that happens, the V8's will soon be in dis-favor. And once again, as has happened so often during the last 25 years (with a few exceptions like Stang, Corvette, the new mac-daddy Caddy)., the domestic manufacturers will be a day late and a dollar short, and the non-domestic manufacturers will be poised to take an even bigger share of the market. So, smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

DAMN STRAIGHT! althou you gotta give props where they're due. I drool all the time when I hear a chevelle drive by. But I rarely if ever hear a good modern camaro drive by, I'm more than accustomed to mustangs and fart cans.

Oh and about the Chevies not sounding so good...(referring to an ls1)...nothing that some longtubes, offroad Y (actually catted might give a better sound), and a Loudmouth can't fix or my favorite the GMMG catback exhaust

First, it won't take a democratic administration for that to happen. Look at Kalifornia.

Second, I think the domestic manufacturers will only be 12 hours and $.50 short. There isn't as much difference between the domestics and imports as there used to be. I love my '93 civic, but they don't offer anything comparable these days.

The reason the Charger will be 4 door is because the market for 2 doors sucks. Theyve tried plenty of 2 door cars, and they dont sell anywhere near what the same car in a 4 door sells like. The tooling needed to produce both bodys cost the same, so the investment is worth the return. No matter what, its always about the bottom line. 2006 Charger will debut at the 2005 NorthAmerican Auto Show, and go on sale in late 2005. Watch for a 425hp 6.1 ltr Hemi as an option.

$40,000?? Are you kidding me?? They are going for over $50k, probably more like $55k or even more. My girlfriends dad bought a used 2003 C5 convertible for a little under $45000 (very very low miles). Maybe $40k for a C6 in three or so years.

And that's MSRP. Now throw in tax, title, license, dealer fees, options....

This is the reason I turned our old family car into my weekend play car. My wife wanted me to get a new car for my self, but since I am a little older than most one here, the size of our old 93 Tbird looked more appealing than another Mustang. I wanted the guts of one of the new Cobras, but the size of the Bird. Since nobody makes one, I am not buying a new car, but building my own. I am about 75% completed now. Need to do some chassis bracing, add a roll bar, and some boost, and will be done. I am spending my cash on after market till Detroit wakes up. So far, without the boost, 500 HP and 3275 lbs.

There is a reason why there isn't a lot offered...the Mustang has just dominated the 'pony car' (2 door coupe/long hood, short deck/econdbox-performance car) market for damn near 40 years.

The Mustang sales just blew away GM...even when the Base Z28 was powered by a Vette Engine, had a 6 speed, and could run high 12's/low 13's just about off the showroom floor....was that because the Mustang GT was such a good seller? NO...it was because the V6 was such a huge seller.

GM/Daimler Chrysler/Etc. would be taking a huge risk in capital to develop, market, and sell a car to compete with the Mustang. Also keep in mind...the people that are Mustang enthusiasts/fanatics/Stangnet members are not your typical consumer of the car. For every 1 of us, there are 10 other people.

For example, I would LOVE to see Ford bring about a low buck (20-22K) stripped 2005 Mustang. No power windows, door locks, no heated seats, no leather, basically, a version of a stripped down 87LX Coupe with a 5 speed and a V8. I'd be all over this...in fact, I'd buy one TOMORROW, but the reality is, that model would not sell enough to warrant producing it. What 'die hard performance guys' like is not what the masses like.

I could see Chrysler poised to make a run at the pony car market with the marketing of "That' thing got a hemi.....sweeeeeeeeet" if they were to develop a suitable car to compete with the Mustang...but the reality is, the time, money and resources that they would need to devote to do that simply would not add up to profits for DC, which is what the game is ALLLLLLLLLLL about. It's not about cool cars, it's about the bux.
