have to change a leaky thermostat housing gasket ...was wondering if its required to drain all the coolant for this? or can i just remove the housing and replace the gasket with out draining?

only time iv ever taken off the thermo housing is when i already had the coolant drained for other reasons

These guys are right. I usually don't drain it, unless it needs to get flushed, mostly just because I'm a cheap ass. I just gotta remember to burp the system afterwards and all is well.

Drain just enough to get it out of the top hose or don't drain it at all... I've done both ways

But if you don't drain at all be ready for a splash
