Thermostat housing gaskets

Hey guys new to this forum that I already like it. My 2000 GT mostly stock has developed a leak on the thermostat housing. I went to AutoZone bought a new o-ring style gasket and some RTV and replaced it but it came back today and noticed it's still leaking. It kind of looks like there might be another gasket underneath what I assume is a spacer. Was just wondering if there was another one there that might need replaced as well and is it the o-ring style or is it the one that has the ears on it with the holes so the bolts can go through? Thank you guys for your time and I pray y'all have a blessed day and thank you in advance

Welcome and hopefully one of the mods will move this over to the “1996 - 2004 SN95 Mustang -General/Talk-“ section as you will get a lot more responses there being your car is a 2000 year model.

@Noobz347 - feel free to delete my post when this gets moved.

Will do. BTW, I have just added you to the list of [Thread Movers] so that can you can move these on your own when you spot them.

Before we can answer this question, need to know what intake is on it. Reason I ask is because there are 3 potential intakes and the answer may differ between all three.

There's the original 2000 plastic intake, the revised 01+ with aluminum crossover that many were changed to, and the dorman intake.

Do you have a picture of the thermostat housing area, as well as a pic of the housing itself, as there was a 99-00 version and a 01-04 version.

With regards to the OE intakes there is no spacer. O-ring drops in the housing has a taper that compresses it. The Dorman intake does use a spacer, at least the old versions do. that's in my pic at the top center.
