Thermostat Housing

There are the chrome pieces that leak, and the cast pieces (10 bucks at your local parts house) that rust.
I have the latter. It has a 3/8" capped port for a sending unit as well.

Good luck.

Lems, I think it's the chrome itself. If yours leaks, I might have an idea or two to try and fix it, depending upon where it leaks (I had to deal with something similar with custom hoses on the 94).

Someone could make a relative gold mine if they could create a shiny housing that didnt leak. I havent seen it yet though.

The chrome ones leak because they are made out of pot metal, not cast iron or even good aluminum. I also think that the chroming process weekans the metal and that leads to an improper sealing surface. If you were to put a straight edge on a leaking one you will usually find that they are warped. You can always paint or powder coat the cast iron one so it will look good.

I was afraid you would say that as I thought I remembered guys complaining that those chrome ones leaked.

Yeah, it's all a PITA. You could sand the chrome off in the area that it leaks.
(A note for general purposes, though I know the guys on this thread know it: be very careful if using power/air tools on chrome).

The idea to nicely paint (or powdercoat or anodize) the cast piece gets my vote. You cant beat the price either. With some work, you could get that piece lookin pretty smooth before color goes on.
