Just a little personal experience...I Ran a 13.99 with a 180*....Hmm colder is faster right? WRONG Put in a 160* couldn't break a 14.6 i've heard that too cold keeps the computer in open loop i'd recomment a 180*

180 cooler is better most of the time but you do need some heat for an engine to work properly

Good advise from previous posts.

I have noticed at the track, my best runs are when the water temp reads right at 180*.

Regardless of performance, you will almost never reach and actually STAY in closed loop with a 160 Tstat, 180 is the lowest you want to go and seams to be a good all-around choice with a slight tip to performance on the scale.

the O2's light off when they are hot enough - irregardless of coolant temp. the A/F curves are what change with temps.

ill add to the track noted differences: i would bet that one is running at WOT nearly the entire time (no O2 input). so the open vs closed loop issue is a bit moot at the track. (feel free to tell me where im wrong - that is what came into my tired brain at first blush).

the stat temp itself does not matter as much as where your car runs. some run at 220* after being in traffic for 10 minutes, with a 160* stat, while others run a 195 stat and dont crest 205. you gotta go with what works with your set up in the condition that it is in.

good luck.
