Hey everyone. I started a thread in 5.0 talk asking if I should get a 89-93 fox and put a turboed 331 in it w/ lots of supporting mods or get an '01 Cobra and make payments. I'm selling my Yamaha R6 for $8000 with lots of mods and gear. I also have alot saved away so i can have ~$10k down payment. If i find a lower priced '03 Cobra like around $23-25k, do you think I could afford it? I was told there were alot of college kids with them. Payments would be ~$260/month plus insurance. Right now I wait tables and average $12/hr.

You are the only one who know's if you can afford it or not. We do not know what your other bills are or what your spending habits are like. As far as which car, you are in the SVT forum, guess which one I think you should go with? COBRA BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :worship:

Just remember, insurance is crazy on these cars, especially for males under 25!

down paiement seems ok, u need to make sure you can pay the monthly for 4 or 5 years + insurance cost + everything that goes around i.e. gas, maintenance, mods ....
also make sure u can still pay ur bills, pay your rent or mortgage...go groceries, go out with ur friends...
u dont wanna tell your friends " i can't have a beer with u guys, I need to pay for my cobra "...u get the picture

If you are putting 10k down and want payments at 260 a month your looking at 24k out the door with good credit and a five-year loan. If you back out tax and license you would need to get the car for around 20k and I don’t think you could find one for that cheep!

The cheapest I’ve seen has been 27k+t.l.

Gas is like 15mpg and insurance somewhere around 150+ a month.

Good luck.

P.s. I just got an Srt-4 for my commuter for 21k and it runs 13s with 1k in mods!

It can be done...but don't jump into anything and make sure you get exactly what you want a realistic price for you. I would say if you can just barely afford it, than its too much...but that doesnt mean you can't get a car that holds its on and could even possibly perform better than an 03. The huge benefit to the 03's is that they come with everything us 99 and 01 guys try to get a hold of. So with that said, don't go out and buy a 99 for 13k and dump 6k on it. Better off saving up and getting an 03 which would be newer and hopefully less miles. Its all up to you...

Save for another year of so and get an 03 Cobra. They will be a little cheaper a year from now and you will have a better down payment

On my 01, I switched insurance companies and now only pay 125 a month, and I'm 21 with a perfect record. Personally I think you should either wait for an 03, in a year, or buy an 01 and have some fun with it.

these " college kids " who drive 03 cobras had it paid for them, or a majority of it. Im in college with an 03 Cobra and I only paid for half my car, and half my insurance.
