So I started putting my 93 GT in the garage and noticed what seems to be an exhaust/gas smell in the garage when I go out in the morning. The other day it started acting funny and I was getting no power for a little bit then it stopped and is running fine. Now I am noticing a small puddle of fluid under the right exhaust pipe after i drive it the morning after. I had plans of a tune up and bought the parts but now i am concerned i may have a fault fuel injector, ignition problem, might be running really rich, or something worse like a cracked something. I won't get the chance to pull the plugs, check timing, compression check cylinders until after finals week next week, but i am just curious if anyone has any guesses on what the hell is going on. Thanks.

hmm interesting i guess i just assumed it was something mechanical. I will have to look under there, it is the right side tail pipe and that is where my gas cap is .

That is a great idea up there. Also, if neither of the fuel lines (which run right next to the tailpipes. :bang: ) look to be the cause, check the fuel tank filler grommet in the side of the tank (also on the pass side). When they start to leak, anything over 1/2 tank of gas or so will often leak out.

Good luck.

yeah mine was the fuel line rubbing on the exhaust. not that bad if you can find a replacement. out of stock at ford not available in the aftermarket thank god for parts cars

Finally just dropped my gas tank yesterday, I think it is the rubber seal where the grommet goes into the tank. It had a few cracks in it and there was a little surface rust where it was on the tanks allowing for liquid to come through. I went to get a part, but only place I could find one was the dealership and they have to special order it. It's a dinky gasket that costs 30 bucks lol. So I don't have time to wait for it to come in because I have to have the car up and running today to drive 2 hours back home. I went and bought some pliable sealant that is resistant to gasoline and kerosene corrosion. I popped the old seal back in with a generous amount of this stuff on it. I put 7 gallons of gas into it and now it is leaking out faster than it was before. Moral of the story don't take your gas tank apart unless you have time to fix it right I guess. So I will order the part tomorrow and try to do the gas tank again next weekend without the benefit of a garage. Thanks for the help diagnosing the problem. If you can think of anything I might screw up doing this next weekend please comment.
