I have had a 5.0 for a long time but I am now looking into getting a 4.6 car. I was looking at the 02-04 GT what do yall think? What is some of the downsides in these year models that I should consider. I would eventually put a supercharger on it if that helps. Let me know if there is really any year models that I need to avoid. thanks for the help. And any list of bolt on mods would be nice to if you don't mind. I would guess that it would be pretty much the same as a 5.0. thanks

no real downsides except its not a great dd in todays society.

unlike 5 liters, you dont have to worry about hg's, or blocks splitting with a bunch of power. but you will really need to put a forged rotating assembly in to have a reliable power adder car. they suck to work on with the large top end(ohc motor). i really miss my 01 but like the simplicity of my 95. you cany go wrong with the mod motor cars if you are going FI IMO

The intake WILL crack eventually....that's the only major problem, really. I would stay away from the 3650 tranny as well, ALOT of people have had problems (mid 00-04 GT's). Just get the car compression tested before you buy it and you should be good .

if you buy an 'o1-o4 the coolant crossover intake is aluminum, no need to worry there. it won't crack

jackie is right about the dd statement though. so many other nicer cars out there

the 4.6 is a decent engine (powerwise) only if air is forced into it so don't even mess with bolt-ons, kind of a waste

I agree with you there, and as long as the shift quality issues have been fixed (either by TSB or buying an 03+), I would venture to say it is one of the best 5-spd manual transmissions to ever be put in a Mustang.

+1 just don't buy a GT that has been beat to death either

I kinda like DDing my GT. The trunk actually has plenty of room despite the small opening. If i need more room, i just fold down the back seat. You'd be amazed at what i've put in my car (without getting crazy as I won't sacrifice cleanliness for practicality)

Also it's not that bad on long highway drives. I have an '03 so i have the lower 0.63 5th gear (same as Cobra's 6th gear) so with the 3.27's it's nice to do 2K RPM at 75MPH. I go on TONS of highway trips of 50+ miles, so i always want to take my car when i go because its so easy and effortless to drive on the highway and i've gotten 26-28MPG highway.

The seats aren't all that bad. I like them. I know a lot of people complain about them but i'm actually looking for another set to put in my Fox. I have no issue with them on long drives.

Plus you toss in the A/C, the 6-disk Mach 460 (which sounds pretty damn good compared to other OEM radios in similarly priced vehicles) my Sat radio and the joy of listening to flowmasters as i click the gears away and it's just a blast to daily drive.

My friends and parents have been pressuring me to get a luxury car and i almost traded the GT in for a G35 coupe, but i just couldn't do it because I think i would miss out on a lot of fun DDing a Mustang
