Het all,

I am thinking of buying a super clean '99 Cobra convertable. 47k miles. Any drawbacks to this year. I will keep it close to stock. Maybe induction and exhaust.

Thanks

No drawbacks. Make sure you don't pay too much for it. Go for it and don't look back. These really are nice cars.

Just a few---
People will be mad because you have a convertible and they don't.
Your hair will get blown around as you tool down the road.
You might have to turn up the stereo.
You will probably look a lot cooler than you thought you ever were
People will want you to give them a ride.
You find yourself wanting to go for a drive on nice evenings.
The worst drawback--you will never be without a convertible again.

Mine was a great car. I wish that I had it back. Buy it and enjoy it. You will never go without a convertible again.

BTW, what color is it? Mine was Rio Red, #3684. It was just a great car.

Hmm... Drawbacks... well, if you were going to be a serious racer there are drawbacks : Ie: weighs more then a hardtop... and some tracks require converts dipping into the 13's to have a 6pt rollcage

But you don't seem to want to take that path, so I say hell yes go for it... I absolutely LOVE my convertable, ill never go back

the irs in the 99-01 have weaker axles off the irs. its only going to be a problem if your drag racing with super sticky tires and launch at 5000rpm's

8 replies and only 1 mention of the lack of performance.

That would be the first thing that the dealer would have to show me is that the car had the fix performed. I don't know the TSB right off hand but you better do that before you get burned on a car that doesn't have much more HP than a GT.

i have no prob with my rear end.... but i did the solid axle swap and can't tell a difference. the convertible is a great car. looks nice with the top down and with a tonneau cover on ( thanks 12sec67) mine is white with white top. and i love it. good luck and just about every 99 has had the fix taken care of i believe
