This is a dude on our local forum....he's doing a turbo 2.3 in a Pinto....this car is SICK SICK SICK. He said he's expecting 800hp at the wheels

Huh? What? Oh, and he said that's the "break in" turbo....once the suspension is dialed in, it's getting a bigger one

That's a pretty bold statement if I've ever heard one. There's always someone faster my friend....and since he's putting it in a Pinto, I'm betting there's more than a few on here doing it "prettier"

There are some wicked cars on these boards...but if that 2.3 really does lay down 800rwhp...yeah that pretty much pwns just about every car on these boards...

Start with a cage/chassis that would make NASCAR jealous, back it with a tubbed/4 link rear end.....it's a serious ride.

I was mostly being sarcastic (plus i knew it would grab attention) but hey lets face it, 99% of what you see around here isn't putting down 800hp...much less from 2.3 liters.

Probably needs a weekly rebuild, though.

This is true, but making 800hp with only 2.3L and 4-pistons isn't exactly an easy task.....even with a lot of unnatural aspiration and giggle gas running through it. For the time being.....lets just call it "a speculative guesstimate" and see if he's actually able to attain his goal.

I dunno....once you actually build a 2.3 to handle that kind of boost, it's a pretty stout engine. It probably just depends on how often it's raced. 800hp is going to put a lot of wear on any engine....it's the RPMs that hurt things the most but i don't think it's going to be pushing anything outstanding. It might need new rings/lifters/springs and such after a season of racing, but most serious race engines get that anyways.

800 horsepower ... and 150 ft. lbs. of torque...

Ah, who am I kidding? I'd be happy just to drive something with 300 horses under the hood, at this point; something with 800 horses, torque or not, would be beyond my comprehension.

Although I'm sure it's impossible at this point, it would still be amusing to see that Pinto wearing its original stock wheels.

Well, i can't very well post the whole progress thread, but believe me it's no BS. The guy in question has done it before with SVO engines. He's also doing an LS2 swap into an RX7 and fabed up the whole K member/suspension all around the car himself from raw materials...

Come to think of it i probably should've asked before posting the pics but i don't think he'd mind. The guy is oozing with talent.

Sure I would. Those kinds of numbers are not for longevity...

Rebuilds are cheap anyways

800hp comes at a price....no matter if you're running 2.3 liters or 8 liters.

the 2.3 is a tougher motor than a 5.0, at least in stock form. it will stand up to a ton of abuse

Hey guys, the Pinto guy is me. 800 hp is absolutely doable, and it probably on the low side of the actual hp it will see. Its been done before, and the setup has been proven time and time again. Joe Morgan, Jon Huber, Fred House, etc. Its not a run of the mill 2.3. Its a tall deck SVO block. Ford made ~200 of them in the 70s if I recall correctly. Its ~1/2" taller deck height, and beefed up substancially. It can take some serious power, 1000+ on the stock block.

I dont' know if the local forum would mind, but I'll post the link to the build thread here.

Here is the link to my RX-7 build as well, some of you may find it interesting.

Dont know how serious you were..........
But look into the wear properties of an inline engine. Or look around at the junkyard with one that has its head off. 200,000+ miles and it will still show most of the original cross hatching in the bores.

Just a matter of air and fuel. If your calculations are correct. Then 2+2=4. The variables usually come down to tuning around the weakest part and I dont see any in that combo.

Come on man. Its not a honda.
An example of a typical cheapo build is my car. Put down 418rwhp and 403 torque. Does that sound like a torqueless n/a honda motor?

EXACTLY. Even built. Stock block to stock block. Inline vs. V8. Two bid things. Inline and one main cap for each rod. Ever heard of someone splitting the block on their SVO

(Ok, I admit , I know Kevin from the other boards, but had to address the misinformations............)
