Hey...I just have to vent. I've had the spoiler off the car for several months now with the standard plugs in the holes until I was going to get it done right. I haven't been able to find any deck lids to swap around here so I figured I would get it filled and painted. WRONG!! I've had three different body shops do quotes for me and they have all be over $500! Are you kidding me? I can't afford to go wingless right now and I doubt I ever will now because of the expense. I LOVE the car wingless but thats huge money to spend on that work. Does anyone have any amounts they paid?

try to find a v6 wingless decklid of the same color. otherwise you either get the colored plugs or pay to fill the holes+repaint the decklid.

Yeah...I've got the painted plugs in the car right now. I'll see what I can do. I just can't believe that it is $500+ to fill and paint.

I can't believe how cheap people are about paint

its the first thing people see when they look at your car.

your paying for the entire lid to be prepped, including filling the holes and most likely some other things that you probly don't even notice that need to get some fix time as well before primer, paint (which is color coat and pearl or candy coat for most of these cars) and then clear. just the cost of the primer paint and clear is probly $250 -$300.

after its all sprayed up then its got to be wet sanded and buffed which is easilly another $50 in materials. plus another 3 or 4 hrs of the guys time.

so when you think about it at those prices the guy makes $200 for probly a good 15 hrs of work.

Screamin, I understand that. When I talked to all the shops they are only filling the holes and painting the sections that were under the wing...not the entire lid. I talked to a body guy and the filler can be worked within the hour. I guess I don't understand how people on here get their whole bumper and hood painted for the same amount. I'm not saying its wrong. I'm just saying that its pretty expensive for what I consider to be a minor paint job. Thanks for your input though.

Probably theyre getting a hookup from someone. I had a buddy tell me they could repaint my GT all black with a seperate clear for $1000 and some change.

+1

its location sensitive too. body work is expensive here in MA, so, $500 for what you want done seems about right to me.

hell, for my old truck, i had a polyeurathane roll pan, which is a 5 foot by 1 foot peice of plastic, painted for $220. no priming or sanding or anything, just a blast of paint and clear. other shops quoted me at $300, i went the cheaper route, and it was noticeable, and ill never make that mistake again.

i found one guy i go to, and go to only, no matter the price. so, if the place quoted you $500, and they are reputable, then go for it.

but i dunno about just painting the top though. that sounds sketchy. its easier to just paint the whole thing, first of all, since you dont have to tape anything off. and secondly, you dont have to worry about blending the paint. spray the whole thing and be done with it.

ask them if they will come down on the price if you take the lid off yourself, and bring it to them, so they dont have to tarp the car. just make sure to scribe the hinges before you take off the lid, to make reinstall and adjustments easier.

I don't think so. Total materials for the entire job would be MAYBE $150.

Maybe $10 in stuff already in the shop.

plus another 3 or 4 hrs of the guys time.

Only if he is an idiot and buffs through and has to re-do the whole job.

so when you think about it at those prices the guy makes $200 for probly a good 15 hrs of work.

For $500 I would be getting AT least $350 for around 3 hours work...

On a side note, at my shop it would run you around $250 or so.

Yeah...that drive would be worth it! I guess you do get what you pay for. Just part of me was hoping it would be less. Just means I have to put the idea on hold for a while. 40th...I got my plugs at Home Depot. Hillman plugs.
