ok some of you might remember a thread i started a week or two ago if not THIS IS IT well i got my 5 speed swap done and now we are dead even.

for some of you to lazy to read the other thread.

My car.

1990 coupe, 5 speed, 3.08 gears,gt40-p heads, b-cam, explorer upper and lower, stock throttle body, stock mass air, stock headers off road x-pipe.

Josh's car

1990 lx vert.
5 speed, 2.88 gears,t-moss intake, explorer throttle body, 95 gt mass air, longtube mac headers off road x-pipe

why isnt my car faster?? here is what is wrong with it. I KNOW the problems i am fixing to list have something to do with it, but i dont see where i am losing this much power. My valve train is making this horrible racket and i have pretty much narrowed it down to a bunch of bent pushrods, i am getting codes saying ACT sensor is grounding or pin 25 is burnt, and i cant use first gear cause the sencro is bad and i cant get it in second gear after 2000 rpm. and my alternator is barely charging at 10 volts cause my e-fan is draining it so much. im going to put a high out put alternator on soon to fix this problem.

other than that it runs prety good. any idea why it is so slow a stock headed, stock cammed lx vert is just as fast as my car?

Just a guess, but it could be the bent rods, lack of first gear, wrong a/f felatio because of ACT sensor. Or it could be incorrect injector pulse and weak spark due to insuffecient voltage. Combine all that and you could be down 50 horses. Also not having first alone would cause the loss to the vert.
Fix all that and if you still loose you might want to check that the driver is not broken :)

no i can drive fine. i just dont see why i am not killing him. i SHOULD have the power advantage and i know i have the weight advantage. well i guess its time to start fixing crap.

p.s. what is a a/f felatio? ratio? lol HEY i thought you had a different user name? i remember when you first got on here and caught all of those CT's in like 5 minutes

Ahhhhh good memories, I think I set a new record, THANKS DAGGS! And I ment ratio but was looking at something else:D

Bent rods: not as much lift or duration, plus compression leak b/c not seating properly....Loss:30-40 hp
Low voltage: Injectors are not fireing as long as they should, not enough fuel....
Loss: 10-12hp
Low voltage: Spark is not as "HOT" as it should be, not a complete burn....
Loss: 5 hp
ACT bad: Wrong air/fuel RATIO and the computer could be pulling timing...
Loss: 8-10 hp
No first gear: Come On! You think that might hurt your acceleration?

And I dont think its driver error, I was just f$@&*%^g wit ya:D :nice:

we dont know how bent they are at this point....

I think lazyness and the lack of drive to work on it has lead to the "still running bent rods" lol

whateva, its at one of our buddys shops right now, he has a car that runs 200 and somethin in the 1/4, and its a ford, so he knows what he's doin.

here is the news.. from someone who KNOWS SPEED. he says i more than likely didnt install my rockers properly. i told him i know i didnt install them right. i just bolted them down and ran em. so now i have to take my intake and valve covers off and let him install them the right way. and i am ordering a new HO alternator tonight. and he is going to look at my ACT sensor for me next week. if i am losing 50+ horse power i should deff be able to feel it when he straightens it out for me.

I just noticed-stock throttle body, stock mass air, stock headers - not helping to compliment the heads, intake, cam at all ... and perhaps a higher psi fuel pump with 24lb injectors when all the other issues are fixed..upgrading all of these should really help...and what ryan said-a good tune

omg quote FTW someone agrees with me for a Change....up the fuel pressure to 39psi....will flow 24lbs at that setting...with the 19lb injectors...but that's getting close to max flow for them...24lb injectors are cheap...in fact i think my buddy has a set..

a 65mm TB, 75MM MAF, 24lb injectors, and a 93 tune will defitinaly help you alot.....

like he said...those are really choking you setup...

Keith can drive, I've ridden with him and he can shift alot better than me. But alls I got to say is I;d smoke you both. He is clearing my car on Sunday and I am pickin it up monday finally!!

i see no need to run 24# ers. 19's can handle more power than my combo is capable of making and i have 2 sets of them as well. this car has the potential to be FAST but i have a bunch of issues i need to work out. i think the stock mass air and throttle body are main main power loss culprits. and YES JOHN right now you would smoke us both. im gonna get everything fixed and get a good tune from a local guy and see where it goes.
