This is not cool at all

I'd say change the headers out. I mean you've upped the air flow into the engine but ur choking it out. The stock headers are good for low end torque but with the setup you have your horsepower is going to be higher up in the rpm range. I'm pretty sure that you have identified your own problems though, with all the things you've listed i can see you losing major power. :Track: see what it runs. Then you can see if your cars just slow or if his car is actually faster.

Laser - Those are pretty 'optimistic' numbers that he has lost:)

67hp?

Not really, add them on the low side and its only 53 hp:shrug: I was a little overzelous on the weak spark, but still with bent rods and the computer getting bad readings b/c of voltage and a bad sensor:rolleyes: he may be loosing more.

BUT THE BIGGEST REASON FOR LOOSING IS NO FIRST GEAR:nonono:

you dont need a afpr, its fine as it is, my 86gt has stock injectors and fpr, and it hauled alot more ass than keiths car (btw has my old engine in it) so its not that it just little stuff we got to work out........

beast: today when I put my gears in I think I will have you, my vert is some kind of weird fast lol.

oh yeah we need to set up a track date soon........

Yes we do!! I have a WHOLE list of things I need to do to my car as soon as it gets back. Changing out all of the fluids including tranny and rear end, readjust my shifter stops, regap the plugs(I know they are horribly off) replace plug wires, replace VC gasket, etc. The list is about 25 things long:jaw:

I;m hoping to pick up a mph or 2 next time, then spray and pray at the track WOOT WOOT

How are the pushrods bent?
The probablem is the P heads have 65cc cambers on them.

P heads are 59cc chambers.

As other have said fix the probs that you know you have and then see what it does. My guess is that it will do much better with the problems fixed.

You most likely don't need 24lbs. You can see what I mods are in my sig. It used to have a a GT40 intake and stock cam with the P heads. Ran the 19lbs. No probs. Even with the cam and TFS intake it still has the 19s.

First off now that I am done removing my own hair in clumps. You aint gonna walk a damn UPS truck with no first and second and 3.08's, your lucky you don't get t-boned at intersections. Get some money scrounged up get a set of cheapy shorties, 24 mass and injectors, fix yo tranny and throw in a set of 3.73 or 4.10 and last but not least set your valves right. If you think your car is fast now you'll problably sleep in it afterwards. Bye bye vert. (2.88 gears what are 2.88 gears)

My car.

1990 coupe, 5 speed, 3.08 gears,gt40-p heads, b-cam, explorer upper and lower, stock throttle body, stock mass air, stock headers off road x-pipe.

Get steeper gears. 3.08's aren't really ideal for a B-cam. With that cam and the gt-40P's, most of the power will be made in the upper RPM range. You would want a slighter taller gear to keep you in that range

Of course, your whole valvetrain making a rukus problem would be my first priority in handling before the above

he cant beat me now, bt afterwards when I put my gears and sfc's and my cam and heads on it, it will beat down time!!! I have 2.73's btw... not 2.88's

here is the news.. from someone who KNOWS SPEED. he says i more than likely didnt install my rockers properly. i told him i know i didnt install them right. i just bolted them down and ran em. so now i have to take my intake and valve covers off and let him install them the right way. and i am ordering a new HO alternator tonight. and he is going to look at my ACT sensor for me next week. if i am losing 50+ horse power i should deff be able to feel it when he straightens it out for me.

That is probably most of the problem right there:nice:

Well, his car does have L/T's and the Explorer T-body. They are 5mm larger, and the L/T's might be worth 15HP. I would get your trans fixed and your charging problem, and run em again.

Dude....i really cant believe what im reading right now. I went through this whole thread and no one has ragged on you about the state your car is in.

I hate to be rude but i think you need to spend a little more time researching about whats going on with your car then worrying about how you cant believe you are loosing to this other kid.

Faulty ACT sensor is a huge problem. You need to get this fixed ASAP. If the computer doesnt know the temp of the incoming air...then it has no idea how much fuel to give it.

Next, if you just bolted down your rockers without any idea of what you were doing...you are lucky you didnt really damage something. If you are leaving valves hanging...there is no doubt you are way down on power. This should've been dealt with immediately...especially if they were making a ton of noise.

10 volts is not enough juice for the computer to properly control the ignition and fuel injection. I think there is a minimum voltage limit when the computer starts to use limp mode logic because the injectors cant fire the way they are supposed to. And why would you buy a stock HO alternator. Go to a junk yard and pick up a 3G from any 94+ stang or tbird or many others and upgrade the alternator while you are there...you will wind up paying more for a stock HO alt...and be worse off. The thing was way underpowered from the factory.

Also why cant you get on it above 2k in 2nd gear...this seems like a pretty serious problem too!?!

Sorry for going off on you...but this seems kind of silly. You have a handful or serious problems with the car and you are still out there racing your buddy. Get the thing running right before you break something expensive! (read: bottom end) good luck man

i know all of this. i am BROKE and cant fix it i just figured a car that was a few hundred pounds lightercould get him and it was a harmless rant more than anything. and it wont go INTO second gear after 2 grand.
