lmao! I love old car commercials... they actually entice you into purchasing the car rather than annoying the hell out of you with crappy music and stupid scenarios like the more recent ones. Actually come to think of it, some car manufacturers have commercials so obnoxious that I pray most nights for them to go out of business so I can have the last laugh.

I knew a girl that an early Taurus SHO. It was fun to drive and pretty quick for a FWD car, but it broke all the time.
If they were going to make a Charger beater with a V-8, I wouldn't name it Taurus. I don't think Ford can really afford to be that daring right now. American car makers are like the airline industry......it takes lots of money to make a little money. Yup, 20 million in profit, and it only took 80 million in operating expenses. Lookin' good.

They could bring back the Taurus as the MAVERICK! Actually, that would be a terrible idea.

There were some v8 SHOs with 32 valves. Those had some serious jump to them. 3.4l v8, 235hp@6100rpm, and 230tq@4800rpm.

I'm pretty sure all of the SHO engines were actually Yamaha outboard engine designs. I know for a fact that they were BIG interference engines. Lots of problems with timing belts going, causing TONS of damage.

On the old TempoTopaz.com forums, there was a guy who crammed a SHO v6 into a Topaz. That thing was crazy. Out of the garage, it ran a 14 in the quarter, being his first trip down the strip ever, on Topaz quality tires. That was much more impressive to me when I read it years ago, but now I think of how many cars can do 14s these days without even trying.

I didn't think the V-8 ones were as fun to drive as the first late 80's SHO's. I think all the SHO's had some sort mechanical issues. It is part of the SHO heritage. I first learned about torque steer in a Taurus. I didn't like FWD at all, but it works damn well in winter.

You need at least high 12's now. I refuse to take my car to the track until I have at least 4.10's or a supercharger. I'd probably run 14.1 all day, and that is like Nissan Altima speeds these days. I think the insurance companies are going to start cracking down again. Overall cars now are faster than they've ever been.

Thats a pretty funny commercial, "power in the hands of fortunate few". They were making the thing out to be like a ferrari, its a damn taurus with at that time a high tech V6 engine.

This is definitely a direction that Ford needs to go in. They need some halo cars to excite the masses and fuel sales of the lower models. I could see myself driving something like this I think I would prefer a performance version the smaller and lighter Fusion or a Mazdaspeed 6. One can only hope that if they do bring the SHO back they put something serious under the hood to make up with it's girth.

Isn't the Mondeo available with a hot motor? Ford Australia has some cool cars. Ford should bring back the Ranchero. Use the Falcon Ute as the basis. Those are the original cross over vehicles. Damn, could you imagine the El Camino or Ranchero making a come back? They probably wouldn't sell any.

Yes, they HAD a mondeo ST-220 in wruope that was REally quick and a Kick ass high performance sedan.....got Great reviews.

if they want to do anything SHO it needs to be AWD. perhaps a upgraded version of the standard fwd econobox taurus could be the SH and a turbo awd version be the SHO. it would be poised to directly go against the STi and Evo, make 280-300ish and be priced at 30k out the door(which is around 5k under what youd get a STi/Evo for). if it looked good and performed even better, it would sell very well.

whatever ford does, they need to look at the cars out there that have potential and have a fanbase and go towards that market. they should make a two-seater coupe to take on the s2k, miata, sky/solstice market. they need a vette killer of the same statute as a vette (two seater v8 thats very well rounded that goes by the name of Thunderbird) but without the vette pricetag. they need to get out of the "mustang is the only car that can be on top" mode. the econobox market is dead for domestics, so ditch it and exploit the performance market, make better trucks and suv's, americans think they want fuel efficient eco-friendly automobiles but they will be in for a rude awakening once those "alternatives" prove they do more harm actually providing for the alternative fuel than good.
