I've been running without a spacer for a long time with my 3550. About 6-7 months ago I started feeling a vibration. Some of it was from a bad clutch/pilot bearing and I took care of that. Now I have vibrations under hard acceleration. If I accelerate lightly it's silky smooth, only when I romp on it does it vibrate.

If I shift into nuetral at high speed, say 80-100 there's no vibration at all.

I want to know if the spacer will or won't cause the driveshaft to be out of balance. I know for a fact that it's in balance right now because there's no vibes at high speeds. I'm about at the end of my rope with this 3550, I'm fixing to off the damn thing and go back to T5.. nice and smooth!!

Any thoughts?

If it was an imbalance due to the driveshaft, then I think it would happen at high speed no matter if your accelerating or in neutral...since the driveshaft is always spinning???

I used a spacer cause I was running a Fox tranny on an SN95, not for balance issues..

I have a stock cross member, the only one available for our cars. No clue on pinion angle.

There is no vibration in the driveshaft itself. I was explaining that so everyone would know right off that the driveshaft was fine. My concern is that there isn't enough engagment into the transmission of the yolk. In that case, it's possible that under hard accelration, especially out of the hole, the slip yolk likes to "wobble" a little. I was just seeing if the spacer "causes" a vibration issue.

hmm....that's odd....adding a spacer IMO would not solve your problem, but i'm running one with no issue's. what about when your at a stop and just rev it, was thinking maybe harmonic balancer or possibly could be something internal in the trans. ?? Can't think of too much off the top of my head though.

I can tell you there is a very large thread on the Corral that deals
with vibration and the Tremec trans.

Maybe you can find some help there

I've seen lots of talk about bell indexing, pinion angle, and other things
that did or possibly could cause your issue.

Good Luck to ya

lol welcome to the ghost of the vibrating tremec..yes there is a huge thread about this .but i have very little vibration in mine and yes i am useing a spacer and there is deff a big diff in how far the yoke is pushed into the tranny with it compared to without it i would recomend adding one.not saying that is your issue with the vibration .

I'm gonna get rid of the Tremec. There's a local place that builds kick ass T5's that are supposed to be good for 335 Tq and 450 Hp. I want my car to be smooth like it was with the T5, I want my shifter to be where it used to be also. I'm not building a 9 sec drag car so a T5 will probably do just fine.

I know I don't have the perspective you have gotten from dealing
with that prob for some time now
but
I would try the spacer
before
I went to all that trouble and expense of the different trans

To try it is not a lot of effort or money

Good Luck with which ever way you go

the sale of the 3550 will more than pay for another T5. My buddy has a driveshaft that was lengthened to accomidate a C4 trans and my thinking is that it will be just perfect for a Fox style 5 speed too. I'll see if that helps first before I get rid of a nice transmission.
