Im looking into the Cobra R Hood...I think it would flow nicely with my current look.. Two questions:


1. What hood pins are you using? (links, prices and pics would be appreciated)

2. What did you do with your stock hood?

I just hate those.
But that hood is awesome. Good choice RC.

I wouldn't run an aftermarket hood without pins, although if and when I ever do get a hood I plan to use the low profile locking pins.

I bought the Cobra R hood directly from ford. it was a perfect fit, and required NO prep.

Go to the track and ask the tech what he thinks about you running an aftermarket hood without hoodpins. He won't be smiling.

When I start getting into the cosmetic side of this hobby, I really want to do a 6 hood pin setup so that I can take the entire hood of the car off while working on it. It's pretty trick IMO. Something to think about, so I can live my dream vicariously through older guys with more money...

I have hoodpins on my car [Mr.Gasket ones] and I wish I never did it. It looks good, but they rust up and look like crap. You really have to keep after them. Also, the lanyard scraches the sides of the hood from where it comes out and the pins where you drill tend to crack the fiberglass/paint. It's not worth it IMO.

i have the frpp hood pins...only thing i dont like about them is that the pins are really rusted now. Too bad they dont just sell new pins lol.

Are you saying that even if you use an aftermarket hood that use the stock hardware, that you still need to have hoodpins to go on the dragstrip ?

If so I didnt know about that....

And RC shouldnt be worrying about that issue since he's against drag racing anyway.

I have the cobra RR hood and i love it. I got mine down here at the turkey rod run from a vedor for 300$ brand new. it took a little fooling with to pull it up too the headlights but i just loosend the hinges and pulled it forword. I dont have hood pins and my hood wouldnt come off if the hulk tried pulling it off, until i hit my latch.

I think I found the perfect locking hood pin

I don't trust most of the locking hood pins out there. The material holding on the hood pin is just not enough to safely hold the hood on all on its own. I've also read posts on other sites where the locking mechanism broke, and the hood flew up.

However, I just stumbled upon these hood locks. What do you guys think?

It's a standard hood pin WITH a lock. I'm not ready to put on hood pins, but these seem perfect. The only problem is price - $80.

I bought a set from a local store dont remember the brand off hand, we had to mess with the hood brackets some and drill a bit to slide them around, bout 8 months now and no rust on them yet

The R hood is a great choice and yes I would probably run pins. As for your stock hood I would just sell it...you might be able to get $50 for it. Or if you want, just store it safely in your garage (just in case anything happens to your new R hood or if one day you decide to go back to stock)

H.O. Fibertrends is the brand I choose..I didn't want the hassle or worry of losing my hood....you latch this one and it's obvious it's going nohwere...Ever see a 95 Cobra R with hood pins??? H.O. makes Fords R hood...

Hood pins are for Hemi-Cuda's....

I sold my front bumper and hood for 250.00 to a local guy just to get em out...

My thoughts exactly!

I've read lots of posts on here about H.O. Fibertrends and everything was very positive. Like mentioned above, the Fibertrends hood is as secure as a stock GT hood, except that it is the Cobra R design. Probably costs a few dollars more, but that's definitely the route I'm going. I don't want to attract a lot of attention visually, so hood pins are not an option.

I have to agree as well. Hood pins take away from a cars class. I think they look tacky unless on a car that is solely a race car. I have an aftermarket fiberglass hood and it is as solid as the original hood. There just isn't a need for them. Look at the pics in my garage. I couldn't imagine pins in the hood

I dont have hood pins but I have the locking flush style in my room and think I will install them this summer just becuase i have heard SO many horror stories about aftermarket hoods flying up on people! It happens a lot more then you would think.

I agree I perfer the look with no hood pins, but I think I might have to go that route. I looked for a while and these locking flush style look the best, and im never going to soley rely on them I still have my factory latch working this is just incase right???

Also how hard is it to hit the pins with a good layer of chrome polish/wax every month or so, it will take you like 1 minute tops and they shouldnt rust?!

I don't use hood pins on my Cobra R and it's been fine. I really think that Cervinis did a great job on the latch section. I've seen some that are just fiberglass and that would be a good need for pins. Cervinis uses a metal plate for the latch section. I thought about hood pins but once you drill the holes it's irreversable unless you wanna paint the hood over.
