Those with FMS Plug Wires

Just bought a new set of the FMS plug wires to replace the set I had bought over 4 years ago.

Set came with wires One through Eight and then two other wires not labeled. One was a short wire just long enough to reach our ignition coil location on SN95 cars, the other was longer to reach near the driver side fender where the Fox cars have their coil.

Easy solution, right? Wrong...one of the ends on the shorter coil wire does not fit on the ignition coil male post. The longer wire fits, but of course it's too much extra wire and I can't see how to cut the ends off or shorten it.

Problem is, my old set was different and the coil wire was labeled "9" and they have seemed to change the wires over the past 4 years.

Anybody else run into this same problem and if so, what did you do?

I just re-used the stock coil wire. It's still in good shape though.

What he said kinda.. I pulled off the conector from the stock wires and stuck it on one of the unmarked FMS wires.

I had the same dilemma. You're going to have to take apart one end of the new short coil wire, and take off the long connector, then crimp on a connector from one of the old wires to the new coil wire, then slip on the boot and you're set.

So basically there is no easy solution I'm seeing here.

I just re-used the old ignition coil wire, but that still doesn't make sense that the FMS wires USED to come with the right shorter wire, and now they don't. ??? Weird

And in response to the FMS wires being junk, you will see many people's opinions about them and they vary...I've had good luck with them and no problems. IMO, can't beat them for the price.

I had the same problem with my FMS wires. I think they are junk. Summit is good about returns, send them back and get some Taylors.

They're junk because you guys don't have the patience to deal with them. I had a magazine, I believe it was Car Craft, where they tested all kinds of different spark plug wires for best transfer of energy, resistance, and all those other electrical things (I really didn't understand half of them). The FMS wires were in the top 5 in virtually every test (out of 16 or 18 different sets of wires). Is there better out there? Certainly. But, whoever said that FMS wires were junk are sorely mistaken. Don't believe everything you read.

Hey man I had them and they fit like crap. Sure I could have cut and crimped them to the length I needed but why should I have to fix something that I just spent $50 on. If I wanted to do that I would have bought some wires that NEEDED to be cut to length. Sure they worked technically as well as my Livewires but the fitment wasn't nearly as good.

I'm running them now, haven't had any problems and they fit great. I bought them from Down's Ford 2 years ago, maybe they've changed?

The FMS wires were designed to fit both 351 and 302 engines. That is why they are longer than the stock ones. So, if you want a stock fit you are going to have to trim the FMS wires or go to another brand.
