Look at the pictures in my signature.

I have 255/40 Nitto 555's in front and 275/40 Nitto 555R's in back. Look perfect on a 8" rim to me....

if i have 17x9 rims, could i go with 315's? how can i tell if i have 17x8 or 17x9, they are cobra r's

If they are 9's...315 Nittos will go on, and will probably look like 275's do on an 8" rim.

I'm putting 275/40s on my 8" rear rim for a good street strip tire. (nitto)

IMO 275's are a bit much for an 8" wheel, even in the slightly narrower than normal Nitto's. My dad put 275's on his stock 00 GT wheels and they fit....barely. They bulged quite a bit, and I'm sure the wacked out sidewall didnt help handling too much.

I say stick with 245's and save a couple bucks.

Its not always about width too, as far as traction goes. My 255/50/16 BFG's hook much better than my 315 Nitto's, as the thin sidewall on the 315's doesnt absorb launches very well, in my experience.

Here you go, GET 315'S FOR SURE. Your rims are .5 in wider than mine and I have them.
