I have a 2000 GT convertible, has about 107k miles. I was working the throttle on the throttle body under the hood, when i moved it to rev the engine there was a slight hesitation along with what sounded like a sucking air sound. Don't remember from my previous mustangs if this is normal or not. Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

as far as hesitation have you cleaned the maf mine was having a bog under high acceleration at low rpm range. cleaned maf worked fine. you can buy MAF sensor cleaner at any auto parts store. might as well get throttle body cleaner while you are at it and clean that while it is disassembled. don't use same cleaners you will need specific ones.

Thanks. I will get some cleaner and give it a try this weekend. Will post how it works after it gets all cleaned.

I have a lot more questions.....this might just be normal.

Did you have the CAI on? If so, was the sucking sound from the filter area? How long of a "hesitation" was there. like a half second, or longer. When you do the throttle, you will hear the sucking of the air into the filter, then about a half second later, the engine will rev. This is completely normal. If the CAI is not installed, and the MAF not working, then that could be part of the hesistation.

Couldn't narrow down where the noise was coming from, may have been from the air filter. I just have a stock air intake and it was all hooked up, noting was removed or disconnected at the time. The hesitation was probably a half second. So if it is normal thats fine, i was just wondering. I will still try and clean the MAF and throttle body this weekend.

The hesitation you're hearing is perfectly normal. We all love our Mustangs here but these engines are not quite as responsive as say a Ferrari 458's V8 which has INSTANT throttle response & is far more eager to rev to the moon than our 4.6's. That being said, go ahead & clean the MAF/TB b/c you've got nothing to lose in doing so.

Can you take and post a vid of the hesitation/response?
