OK gents been reading alot on TOB retainer install write ups on stangnet but I'm still confused on end play and Shims. Also what is race?

I'm gonna drop the tranny labor day weekend and install new clutch fork, pivot stud, TOB and of course TOB retainer due to 1st gear rough shaky starts. I have a new clutch assembly so I'm going with these other parts to solve my problem. I know I need to lightly coat TOB retainer and TOB with grease and check for end play and shim accordingly but I'm confused on how to check for "endplay" once I install the new retainer..?

I read other posts but just don't get it.
Also where exactly will the old shim be located? Is there pic someone could offer. I know about all the other parts... Any help appreciated.

dude the throw out bearing will come in the retainer. it just slides over the input shaft in one assembly. you do not shim them on a fox.
